BBC to disable downloads on some devices
From next month it will no longer be possible to download from BBC i player on certain devices as the broadcaster closes down the Desktop Downloads App. Here's everything you need to know about the changes.
The BBC has said that they have started the process of closing the Desktop Downloads App. This means that those using a computer or laptop will no longer be able to download from BBC i player from Monday the eleventh of March. Affected devices include Windows PCs running Windows 10 and 11, and Apple MacBook devices including MacBooks, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.
It is now longer possible to download the app on the affected devices, in preparation for the change coming in next month.
It will however still be possible to view existing downloads until Monday the eighth of April, and service will continue as normal for compatible mobiles and tablets meaning that programmes downloaded to those devices will still be accessible for users when you find yourselves without an internet connection.
