Woman finds heart-shaped spud in her shopping on Valentine's weekend

A supermarket shopper had a love-ly surprise after finding a heart-shaped POTATO in a bag of Tesco spuds on Valentine's weekend.

Daisy Reynolds, 56, did her regular weekly food shop at her local branch in Walsall, West Mids., and picked up the last bag of Tesco King Edwards potatoes.

Upon opening them when she returned home on Saturday (10/2), she was shocked to find a perfectly formed heart-shaped spud amongst them.

Daisy has now decided to save the potato to eat with her partner Andy on Valentine's Day tomorrow (14/2).

Daisy, of Bloxwich, Walsall, said: "I just opened the bag and there it was.

"We had been to do our Saturday shop, get some potatoes, and that was the only bag left of King Edwards, so I thought 'I'll have that', because I normally have red ones.

"I opened it up and that was the first one I put my hand on.

"I was quite surprised to find it, I just thought it was quite nice leading up to Valentines Day. It was a bit of a coincidence.

"At first, I didn't really want to use it because it looks so nice and quirky.

"I thought I'd keep it and take some photos, because I've never found a heart shaped vegetable before."

Her Valentine's Day plans will involve cooking herself and Andy a romantic meal of steak and homemade chips – made using her special love-heart potato.

Daisy added: "Andy and I enjoy a steak and homemade chips, so I will be using the potato for our Valentine's Day meal."

The bag of King Edwards potatoes were farmed by Mike Wilkinson in Kent.
