Angry elephant chases animals from watering hole

An angry elephant chased animals away from its watering hole - and clashed with a buffalo.

Alistair Lyne was visiting Kruger National Park, South Africa, in December 2023.

Dramatic footage shows the elephant being confronted by a sole buffalo who despite its massive weight disadvantage drove the larger animal out of the water.

However, the elephant stomped back into the drinking hole and after a deafening clash of tusk on horn the buffalo was also driven away.

Alistair said: “A boisterous and greedy young elephant bull caused havoc at the watering hole.

“First he chased a wildebeest away, then he chased the impala and antelope. He wanted the waterhole to himself.

“He made effective use of his trunk and the water, spraying the other animals so they left. Then a lone African buffalo bull entered the fray.

“At first the elephant kept the buffalo away but he stood his ground and got to drink. With the elephant somewhat withdrawn, both the wildebeest and the impala seized the opportunity to grab some water.

“But the elephant did not give up. He circled the waterhole and took on the buffalo again, actually bumping it with his tusks.

“In total the elephant and buffalo clashed five times. The elephant even kicks mud into the buffalos face.

“Finally the buffalo realised he was outgunned and withdrew to the shade of a tree.”
