00:00:04 It's the second last day of Australian Idol auditions,
00:00:07 and it's starting with a bang.
00:00:10 [MUSIC]
00:00:18 We've already assembled the most outstanding crop of new singers into our top 30.
00:00:25 >> I think you're one of the best vocalists I've heard for a long time.
00:00:29 >> I think I would buy every single ticket to any show you ever played.
00:00:36 >> And you, my friend, have got a red hot shot of being the winner.
00:00:41 >> 22 golden tickets have been handed out.
00:00:45 Now, only eight remain.
00:00:47 [MUSIC]
00:00:50 >> Tonight, with only a handful of golden tickets left,
00:00:54 the judges are looking for the super special.
00:00:58 >> Hallelujah.
00:00:59 >> You ready?
00:01:00 >> I could just push you out on stage, and I think you'd do really well.
00:01:04 >> Man, that was really special.
00:01:07 >> But for one contestant.
00:01:09 >> Hey, Kobe, Kobe, stop.
00:01:12 >> That pressure is too much.
00:01:14 >> Stand up for me.
00:01:17 Calm yourself down.
00:01:18 [MUSIC]
00:01:24 >> Am I ready? >> You're the thing I know.
00:01:28 >> Am I ready? >> You're the one you're talking about.
00:01:31 >> Am I ready? >> You can figure it out, to be loved.
00:01:35 >> [LAUGH] >> No one's getting better than you.
00:01:39 >> Brother, what have you got?
00:01:41 >> Someone out there has made cookies.
00:01:43 >> Never. >> On your faces.
00:01:44 >> Never. >> So I've got.
00:01:45 >> My God. >> Are you serious?
00:01:46 >> Hang on, who's this? >> This is Santa Claus looking clown.
00:01:49 >> Are you serious? >> Masha, custom cookie.
00:01:52 >> Yes. >> Look at yours.
00:01:54 >> Who's that?
00:01:55 >> Show me.
00:01:55 >> Clearly, this is me ten years in Sydney and I've had every bit of work done.
00:02:00 [MUSIC]
00:02:03 >> Hard like you, Kyle.
00:02:05 >> With stakes at an all time high, will our very first audition of
00:02:10 the day hit that sweet spot that judges are looking for?
00:02:14 >> My name is Ashley Marin, I'm 30 years old and I'm from Sydney, New South Wales.
00:02:20 I did my first musical when I was 15 and fell in love with it.
00:02:24 And ever since then, I went to uni, studied musical theater.
00:02:28 So now I work on cruise ships as a singer.
00:02:31 Because I've had a lot of experience as a performer in a lot of different venues,
00:02:35 I've performed for a lot of people all around the world.
00:02:38 So I bring that experience here today.
00:02:41 I'm someone who always wants to get better, always wants to challenge myself.
00:02:45 I don't like just being mediocre.
00:02:47 And if I can't get something, I will work until I do.
00:02:50 >> Do it, let's get that golden ticket, baby.
00:02:51 >> Yeah, you got this.
00:02:53 >> It does give me an advantage that I've had the performance experience,
00:02:55 cuz my daily life, I walk into audition rooms with audition panels staring at me,
00:02:59 waiting for me to sing.
00:03:01 So in that aspect, I think it gives me a definite head start.
00:03:05 I've worked for this moment since I was 15.
00:03:07 And I think this is my time, let's do it.
00:03:09 [MUSIC]
00:03:10 >> Bye.
00:03:11 >> Hello.
00:03:12 >> Hey there.
00:03:13 >> Hi, how are we doing?
00:03:14 >> Good, good.
00:03:15 >> Thank you.
00:03:16 >> Front and center.
00:03:17 >> Front and center, I'm a hotspot.
00:03:18 >> Welcome, welcome.
00:03:19 What's your name?
00:03:20 >> My name's Ashley, I'm 30 years old and I'm from Sydney.
00:03:21 >> Hi, Ashley from Sydney.
00:03:22 >> Hello.
00:03:23 >> So we're obviously looking for a superstar.
00:03:24 >> Yeah.
00:03:25 >> What makes you the next Australian Idol?
00:03:26 >> I have a lot of experience as a performer.
00:03:27 I work on cruise ships, overseas.

00:05:51 I've been on a lot of shows.
00:05:52 I've been on a lot of shows.
00:05:54 Excellent.
00:05:55 Okay, the verdict.
00:05:56 I can see that you're really entertaining.
00:05:59 You've got a cracking personality.
00:06:01 Thank you.
00:06:02 Like, I'm already all in on that.
00:06:03 Thank you.
00:06:04 I just didn't feel really connected.
00:06:05 I wasn't like...
00:06:06 I enjoyed it, but I'm just not sure I see you as that star.
00:06:12 Listen, I see what Amy's seeing
00:06:16 because this is a rehearsed entertainer
00:06:20 who does entertainment for a living.
00:06:22 But what I was trying to imagine,
00:06:24 because it's quite a sterile environment,
00:06:26 will she stand out like a superstar?
00:06:29 And I didn't see it, but I believe it is in there.
00:06:33 Okay.
00:06:34 You know what I'm saying?
00:06:35 Yeah, and you've also obviously got a good work ethic as well.
00:06:37 Being able to do cruise ships is not, you know...
00:06:39 Yeah.
00:06:40 Yeah.
00:06:41 But eight shows a week, you know, you've got some pipes, okay?
00:06:43 Yes.
00:06:44 Because that's hard.
00:06:45 I just, I wonder something.
00:06:46 I wonder if, this might sound a bit rude,
00:06:48 but would you be able to...
00:06:49 I just want to talk to these guys.
00:06:51 Oh, sure.
00:06:52 Are you able to just sort of wait?
00:06:53 Yeah, sure.
00:06:54 We'll talk about you behind your back.
00:06:55 You won't have any idea until then.
00:06:56 Thank you.
00:06:57 We'll yell out when we're ready.
00:06:58 All right, thanks.
00:06:59 Okay, um...
00:07:01 Was she playing safe?
00:07:05 Is there more in the can there?
00:07:07 I find it very mechanical.
00:07:10 You know what, it'd be nice to be able to have someone
00:07:13 that can come on and just knock a song out every week.
00:07:16 Knock it out, knock it out.
00:07:19 The people who we have got those moments for,
00:07:22 when you compare...
00:07:23 Yeah, yeah.
00:07:24 Ashley!
00:07:27 Oh, here we go.
00:07:33 She's...
00:07:38 Welcome back, Ashley.
00:07:39 Thank you.
00:07:40 Sorry to make you wait.
00:07:41 No, that's okay.
00:07:42 No worries.
00:07:43 Okay, um...
00:07:45 So...
00:07:46 So...
00:07:47 Um...
00:07:52 You're not coming.
00:07:56 That's okay.
00:07:59 As disappointing as that is,
00:08:00 because you've got a lot of greatness.
00:08:01 Thank you.
00:08:02 But we chatted and we know what you're going to be up against
00:08:06 and we didn't see that extra, extra that we needed.
00:08:10 Okay, cool.
00:08:11 You may have it in there.
00:08:12 Yeah.
00:08:13 But we haven't seen it.
00:08:14 Last season, we probably would have put you through,
00:08:17 but this season is tough.
00:08:19 This is like, we're only putting, like, the best of the best in.
00:08:22 Yeah, that's fine. Thank you so much, guys.
00:08:24 Thank you, Ashley.
00:08:25 Thank you for having me.
00:08:26 Sorry for the muck around.
00:08:27 No, that's fine. All good. No worries.
00:08:28 Good luck to you.
00:08:29 Thank you, guys. See you later.
00:08:30 All right, see you later.
00:08:31 Pleasant. So pleasant.
00:08:35 Just not Australian Idol.
00:08:36 Just nothing special.
00:08:37 It's not a major weirdo.
00:08:38 No, no. I want to get shivers. I want to go...
00:08:40 With only eight golden tickets remaining
00:08:43 and the judges being tougher than ever before,
00:08:46 contestants will need to pull out all the stops to impress.
00:08:50 Hi. Oh, this looks fun.
00:08:52 I'm with the Latte Girls here.
00:08:53 Oh, what have you got there?
00:08:55 I've got some of my novels for you guys.
00:08:58 You write? You're a writer?
00:08:59 I do write.
00:09:00 Are you actually work here?
00:09:02 No, no, no, I don't work here.
00:09:04 I'm auditioning.
00:09:05 Oh, I'm so sorry.
00:09:06 I'm a barista, like, as a job.
00:09:08 Oh!
00:09:10 Oh!
00:09:11 I'm sorry.
00:09:12 Hi.
00:09:13 Oh!
00:09:14 Whoa!
00:09:16 I'm ready.
00:09:18 What's different about you?
00:09:20 I'm left-handed, nice to meet you.
00:09:22 There you go. Well done.
00:09:23 Touche. Touche.
00:09:25 Let's see what you've got. When you're ready.
00:09:27 # Waking up to kiss you when nobody's there
00:09:33 # The smell of your perfume still stuck in the air
00:09:38 # It's hard
00:09:42 # I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust
00:09:46 # I'm breathing in the chemicals
00:09:50 # And I banished every memory you and I had ever made #
00:09:58 Uh-oh.
00:10:01 Mmm!
00:10:03 Oh, Lord, she says.
00:10:05 All this meat and no potatoes.
00:10:07 I love that you do this,
00:10:09 but I want to see someone who's like,
00:10:11 "I want to be a musician,
00:10:12 "this is how much I've been training for this moment,"
00:10:15 and I just don't feel that from you.
00:10:17 But good luck writing the books.
00:10:19 Big yes to the coffees, but it's a no from me today, Maddie.
00:10:23 Thank you. Thank you so much, guys.
00:10:27 You're welcome. Thanks, though. Bye-bye.
00:10:29 That was so weird.
00:10:31 # Dee-dee-dee
00:10:33 # Dee-dee-dee-dee
00:10:35 # Dee-dee-dee-dee
00:10:37 # Dee-dee-dee-dee
00:10:39 # Dee-dee-dee-dee
00:10:41 # They're creepy and they're quirky
00:10:43 # Mysterious and hooky
00:10:45 # They're all together ooky
00:10:47 # The art of family... #
00:10:49 I used to love... I used to call it Run Home.
00:10:51 Yeah, me too. I loved it. Click.
00:10:53 Next, please.
00:10:55 All right, a couple of minutes, got to go.
00:10:57 A couple of good-looking roosters here.
00:11:02 How are we, boys? Brothers?
00:11:04 Uh, brothers and then a cousin.
00:11:06 Brother, cousin. Yeah. All release, though.
00:11:08 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
00:11:10 Unfortunately, there's going to be one Australian Idol.
00:11:12 So who's it going to be?
00:11:14 Well, they'll be sad about it when I win, but...
00:11:16 See, that's what he thinks.
00:11:18 We are a band called On Par.
00:11:20 It's hard to argue that we're not a boy band.
00:11:22 I'd say we're different.
00:11:24 A quartet. A quartet.
00:11:26 That sounds a lot more manly, I feel.
00:11:28 We are from Brisbane.
00:11:30 We're all together.
00:11:32 We've always been a really creative family.
00:11:34 And we've done everything from cheerleading
00:11:36 through to breakdancing, hip-hop.
00:11:38 Audition time.
00:11:43 Hugs and kisses.
00:11:45 We're auditioning for Idol as individuals, but...
00:11:47 It kind of feels like we're going into this with four lives.
00:11:50 Good luck, boys. All the best.
00:11:52 If one of us goes, we're vicariously living through the other three.
00:11:57 (GASPS)
00:11:59 Hello, hello.
00:12:05 Hi. Hey.
00:12:07 What's going on here?
00:12:09 What's the deal? What are we doing?
00:12:11 We've got a format where it's Australian Idol.
00:12:13 Not idols. Singular. Not a group of blokes.
00:12:15 Yes. So we're a band,
00:12:17 but we figured we'd give it a crack as soloists.
00:12:20 Wow. Hang on. Are you guys brothers?
00:12:22 These two are my brothers and this is my cousin.
00:12:24 I'm a cousin. What's your name?
00:12:26 I'm Isaac. Isaac. Isaac. What's your name?
00:12:28 I'm Caleb. Jacob. Eli.
00:12:31 It's a very biblical vibe going on. Yes. Yes. A little bit.
00:12:34 I love it. Everything's working so fast.
00:12:36 Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick in all the boxes.
00:12:38 Bring it.
00:12:40 Next...
00:12:42 Some are better than others.
00:12:45 Would you separate?
00:12:47 Like, it's sort of like a circumcision
00:12:49 where we cut off the bits we don't want to keep the greatness.
00:12:53 What will happen when this family boy band go head to head?
00:12:58 But like a circumcision, we'd prefer not to have one.
00:13:01 It's a very biblical vibe going on. Yes. Yes. Yes. A little bit.
00:13:16 I love it. Everything's working so fast.
00:13:18 Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick in all the boxes.
00:13:20 Bring it.
00:13:22 What's it going to mean if some get through and some don't?
00:13:24 I know they'll really support each other
00:13:27 and they'll be there for each other.
00:13:30 But of course it'll be hard because they're so close.
00:13:33 All right, so we're just going to go down the line.
00:13:35 Yeah. Yep. Perfect.
00:13:37 So the first person... What was your name again, sorry?
00:13:39 Isaac. Isaac. What are you going to sing, Isaac?
00:13:42 I'll be singing L-O-V... L-O-V-E. Sorry.
00:13:45 Not that word. That word.
00:13:47 Is that L-O-V... No, Nat King Cole's. Yeah.
00:13:50 My mother's favourite singer, Nat King Cole.
00:13:52 Awesome. Awesome.
00:13:54 However, Marcia didn't like her mother, so it's not that old.
00:13:56 That's not true. No, no. It's not true.
00:13:59 OK, Isaac. Yes.
00:14:01 Let's see what you've got on offer. Awesome.
00:14:04 # Love is all that I can give to you
00:14:17 # Love is more than just a game for two
00:14:22 I love it.
00:14:23 # And two in love can make it
00:14:27 # Take my heart and please don't break it
00:14:30 # Love was made for me and you
00:14:35 # Love was made for me and you
00:14:41 # Love was made for me and you. #
00:14:47 Hey, looky, looky here.
00:14:51 OK. Isaac. OK.
00:14:53 Take a step back. Come on up, Caleb. Thank you.
00:14:55 I'm the cousin. You're the cousin.
00:14:57 Oh, you're the odd one out. I am the odd one in.
00:15:00 You came from some other womb.
00:15:02 Yeah. But we're brothers by choice. We're family.
00:15:05 What are you going to do?
00:15:07 I'm going to be singing Believe, originally.
00:15:10 Originally by Sherb. I'm doing the Adam Lambert.
00:15:13 OK, cool.
00:15:14 # Believe. #
00:15:15 Great song, great choice, great so far, so good.
00:15:17 Isaac, excellent. Caleb, let's see what you've got.
00:15:19 Absolutely.
00:15:20 # No matter how hard I try
00:15:28 # You keep pushing me aside
00:15:31 # And I can't break through
00:15:35 # There's no talking to you
00:15:39 # Do you believe in life after love?
00:15:44 # I can feel something inside me say
00:15:50 # I really don't think you're strong enough, no. #
00:15:56 Thank you.
00:16:00 It's very interesting cos I'm starting to understand what I'm hearing.
00:16:03 OK, cool. Oh, yeah.
00:16:04 Well, welcome back to the panel, Marge.
00:16:06 It's very nice to be back.
00:16:08 The trip's starting to wear off.
00:16:10 Next victim, come on up.
00:16:12 Thanks, Caleb.
00:16:13 OK, who have we got here? Jesus.
00:16:15 Is it Jesus?
00:16:16 No, this is Jacob.
00:16:17 Jacob, sorry.
00:16:18 Jacob.
00:16:19 OK, Jacob.
00:16:20 What are you going to sing?
00:16:22 I'll be singing Faith by George Michael.
00:16:24 You guys have got good song choices.
00:16:26 Yeah.
00:16:27 Thank you.
00:16:28 OK, let's go. When you're ready.
00:16:30 # Well, I guess it would be nice
00:16:35 # If I could touch your body
00:16:37 # I know not everybody has a body like you
00:16:41 # Mm, I've got to think twice
00:16:44 # Mm, before I give my heart away
00:16:46 Oh, police.
00:16:47 # Cos I know all the games you play
00:16:50 # I've played them too
00:16:52 # Mm, oh, baby, when love comes down with
00:16:56 # Our devotion
00:16:58 # Well, it takes a strong man, baby
00:17:00 # But I'm showing you the door
00:17:02 # Cos I've got to have faith
00:17:04 # Mm, I've got to have faith
00:17:07 # Oh, I've got to have faith, faith, faith
00:17:10 # I've got to have faith, faith, faith. #
00:17:12 Da!
00:17:13 Babe! OK.
00:17:14 Oh, well, you did. Thanks, man.
00:17:16 Sorry, I was getting into it a little bit.
00:17:18 Jacob, thank you.
00:17:19 Back in the line there, my friend.
00:17:21 Great pants, Jacob.
00:17:22 And here we go with Ulysses.
00:17:24 Uh, slightly off, just Eli.
00:17:26 Eli!
00:17:27 Just close, you were very, very close.
00:17:29 I'm so sorry, Eli.
00:17:30 I'm often mistaken as a girl sometimes,
00:17:32 so I get it, so it's OK.
00:17:33 What have you chosen to sing?
00:17:34 I've chosen to sing Story Of My Life by One Direction.
00:17:37 Oh!
00:17:38 You're going to have to excuse him.
00:17:40 I know I don't look like the normal 1D fan,
00:17:42 holding up the signs, "I love you!"
00:17:44 But I do.
00:17:45 Good choice. Let's see what you've got.
00:17:47 # Written on these worlds
00:17:54 # Are the stories that I can't explain
00:18:01 # I leave my heart open
00:18:03 # But it stays right here empty for days
00:18:06 # And I'll be gone, gone tonight
00:18:12 # The ground beneath my feet is old and white
00:18:16 # The way that I've been holding on too tight
00:18:20 # Like nothing in between
00:18:22 # The story of my life
00:18:27 # I'll take her home
00:18:29 # I'll drive all night
00:18:31 # To keep her warm in time
00:18:35 # It's frozen
00:18:39 # The story of my life. #
00:18:44 Thank you, Eli. Thank you, Eli.
00:18:47 You know, it's so interesting,
00:18:48 cos the four of you have got such different voices,
00:18:51 and you're such individuals, yeah?
00:18:53 Thank you.
00:18:54 So what we're going to do is we're going to chat amongst ourselves.
00:18:57 We're going to send you out if you're cool with that.
00:19:00 Yeah, and this is why.
00:19:01 Cos some are better than others.
00:19:06 Yep.
00:19:07 Would you separate?
00:19:09 Like, it's sort of like a circumcision
00:19:11 where we cut off the bits we don't want to keep the greatness.
00:19:16 Is that even an option, or are you guys stuck together?
00:19:20 For the show, we're individual artists.
00:19:22 That's what we're coming in as.
00:19:24 OK, great. So you're all here individually.
00:19:26 Absolutely.
00:19:27 And you'll go for it regardless of what the result is.
00:19:30 Absolutely.
00:19:31 But like a circumcision, we'd prefer not to have one.
00:19:33 LAUGHTER
00:19:34 I like this guy.
00:19:35 Listen, it all depends on your religion.
00:19:37 So go and wait in the tunnel.
00:19:39 Go and park yourself down that dark tunnel.
00:19:41 And we'll call you in.
00:19:42 Thank you, fellas. That's really good.
00:19:44 Thank you very much.
00:19:45 Thank you.
00:19:46 I think there's something about those two.
00:19:51 I have a choice. There's one I would choose.
00:19:53 Oh, who?
00:19:54 The last one.
00:19:55 I'd cut him and I'd cut the last two.
00:19:58 I only like the first two.
00:19:59 But that's what I would do.
00:20:07 But I think we've chosen well.
00:20:09 Boys!
00:20:13 Here they come.
00:20:16 Yeah, the boys. Welcome back, boys.
00:20:19 Hello again. Hello again.
00:20:21 Thank you.
00:20:23 OK, so we've done a lot of talking about you guys behind your back.
00:20:29 LAUGHTER
00:20:31 Look, we're going to... We'll just rip the band-aid off here.
00:20:35 Please step forward, Eli and Caleb.
00:20:38 OK, so coming forward to the next round...
00:20:47 ..is Eli and Caleb in the front.
00:20:50 # I never felt so strong
00:20:52 # So powerful I'm King Kong
00:20:54 # And that's jungle in his mouth
00:20:56 LAUGHTER
00:20:58 This is really good to see.
00:20:59 We want to see that. We really do.
00:21:01 Cos otherwise you'd break our hearts.
00:21:03 I need to talk to Eli and Caleb for a minute, though.
00:21:06 Yes, sorry.
00:21:07 Because you're definitely... You're not perfect.
00:21:10 It wasn't always.
00:21:11 Yeah, it wasn't always.
00:21:12 It was always.
00:21:13 Definitely you're not perfect. It wasn't always.
00:21:16 Yeah.
00:21:17 It was like we see something.
00:21:19 Yeah.
00:21:20 It's going to be super tough.
00:21:22 You're not through just yet, you're just through to the next round.
00:21:25 We've said yes, but now you're representing the two in the back.
00:21:29 Hell, yeah. OK? It's about that.
00:21:31 Family's very important. All right?
00:21:33 Congratulations, fellas. Thank you so much.
00:21:35 Thank you so much, guys. Thanks, guys.
00:21:37 Thank you.
00:21:38 Wow. Yeah.
00:21:40 (BELL RINGS)
00:21:42 What happened?
00:21:46 We got through.
00:21:47 Us two made it through.
00:21:49 We didn't, but still.
00:21:51 # I never felt so strong
00:21:53 # Simply to stop the ball
00:21:56 # Cos I'm a heavy gun
00:21:59 # And I can't get enough
00:22:01 #
00:22:02 It is a bit sad, losing two members,
00:22:05 but we have an honour now and a responsibility to keep the band going.
00:22:09 We got two more people that we have to push on,
00:22:11 even though they're not with us anymore.
00:22:13 Just give it 110% for them and for each other.
00:22:15 It's incentive.
00:22:16 # Cos I'm a warrior
00:22:19 Next...
00:22:20 I'm from Bribie Island.
00:22:22 Oh, my goodness. Oh, wow.
00:22:23 Coming from somewhere small and only being known locally,
00:22:27 I'm feeling nervous.
00:22:29 Will this teenager be Bribie's biggest export?
00:22:33 It was interesting, cos I heard the shaky bits.
00:22:35 Yeah. I'm on the fence.
00:22:37 You know, you're super young.
00:22:39 I thought it was excellent.
00:22:40 And later...
00:22:42 ..a rock chick...
00:22:43 I don't think Idol's ever seen a rock chick before.
00:22:46 ..determined to change Idol history...
00:22:49 You really want it or are you just feeling into it?
00:22:51 Really, really want it.
00:22:52 Really, really, really.
00:22:53 Really, really, really.
00:22:54 ..as contestants try anything to get a golden ticket.
00:22:59 Cock-a-doodle-doo!
00:23:01 Hey!
00:23:05 As usual, Carly ain't doing nothing.
00:23:07 Oh!
00:23:08 Oh.
00:23:09 Can you sing or are you just the shake-it-all-about type?
00:23:12 Sing?
00:23:13 Yeah.
00:23:14 I can't sing.
00:23:15 Oh.
00:23:16 Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
00:23:17 Oh, shoot.
00:23:19 Come with me to pack for Australian Idol.
00:23:34 Hi, I'm Kiani-Jaz Smith and I'm 17 years old
00:23:37 and I'm from Brabby Island, north of Brisbane.
00:23:39 Welcome to Australian Idol. Let's go, bro.
00:23:49 I started singing when I was really young, about four years old,
00:23:53 and then I started playing guitar when I was about seven years old.
00:23:57 My dad actually taught me.
00:23:59 # Here's my play. #
00:24:02 I've been writing songs and it's definitely something that I love.
00:24:06 I've had people cry over my songs, in a good way,
00:24:09 but it's just, it makes me feel so good, you know,
00:24:12 and it's something that I want to show people.
00:24:15 Being on Australian Idol is definitely helping me chase my dreams.
00:24:21 Good morning! How are we going today?
00:24:23 We're really excited. We're excited? Wonderful.
00:24:26 Coming from somewhere small and only being known locally,
00:24:30 I'm feeling nervous, but to be here and be doing this
00:24:34 is such an amazing experience,
00:24:36 so I'm going to remember it for the rest of my life.
00:24:38 Wish you the best of luck. Thank you.
00:24:40 Big hugs. You got it. Big hugs.
00:24:42 Hi! Hi!
00:24:54 How are you guys? Hey, good.
00:24:56 Wow, solid head of hair, yeah.
00:24:59 Great hair. Yeah. Thank you.
00:25:01 What's your name? My name is Kiani Jazz-Smith.
00:25:04 How old are you? I just turned 17.
00:25:06 OK. Where are you from?
00:25:08 I'm from Bribie Island.
00:25:10 Oh, my goodness. Wow. Sweet.
00:25:12 I spent every school holidays at the Bongaree Caravan Park.
00:25:17 You're kidding. My mum still lives on Bribie Island.
00:25:19 Does she? Really? Yeah, she does, yeah.
00:25:21 Yeah, right. Yeah. OK.
00:25:23 What are you going to sing? I'm going to sing 2002 by Anne-Marie.
00:25:26 When you're ready, let's see what you've got.
00:25:29 This is your time. Good luck.
00:25:31 Girl, thank you.
00:25:36 # I will always remember
00:25:43 # The day you kissed my lips light as a feather
00:25:49 # And it went just like this, no, it's never been better
00:25:53 # And the summer of 2002
00:25:59 # Oh, dancing on the hood in the middle of the woods
00:26:06 # On our Mustang where we sang songs with a heart shot
00:26:10 # Hurting and praying
00:26:16 # Ooh, it's not good, not good, not good
00:26:19 # I'm probably singing about the boat
00:26:21 # You want to go and take a row
00:26:23 # Baby, no, baby, one more time
00:26:26 # You know, bitch, you'll be with me on the days that we were young
00:26:31 # Singing at the top before I low
00:26:36 # On the day we fell in love. #
00:26:39 Hallelujah. I loved it.
00:26:43 You're exactly what I'm looking for.
00:26:45 Someone who knows who they are, knows how to present themselves,
00:26:49 has a great voice, knows what songs work for them.
00:26:53 You're ready. I could just push you out on stage
00:26:57 and I think you'd do really well.
00:26:59 I thought it was excellent.
00:27:01 Now for the singers.
00:27:03 It was interesting because I heard the shaky bits. Yeah.
00:27:06 But you've got a really nice voice. I think it needs some work, though.
00:27:10 Yeah. I'm on the fence, but I can see what I'm seeing. Yeah.
00:27:15 I really enjoyed that and I think it's pretty scary
00:27:20 that you're that good at this age.
00:27:23 I didn't see anything that I was nervous about.
00:27:25 Even your guitar playing, you're getting used to it.
00:27:28 I can tell, like, doing bar chords even, I couldn't do that.
00:27:31 I was struggling at 17 to do that. Yeah.
00:27:34 It's going to get pretty hectic from here on.
00:27:38 Like, this competition can be really, you know, nerve-wracking and stressful.
00:27:43 Yeah. You're super young and don't say anything.
00:27:47 I don't like you telling everyone,
00:27:49 "Wait until you're really old and miserable and then become a singer."
00:27:52 Like you. "Get in early." Exactly.
00:27:54 "Don't let you run too late."
00:27:56 It's a flat-out yes from me. I'm 100% behind you.
00:28:00 Awesome. I believe in you. I think you're really great.
00:28:04 I'm so glad.
00:28:06 And I'm going to say a yes from me. Thank you.
00:28:09 It's a yes from me. Thank you so much.
00:28:12 You haven't won one of these just yet. Yeah.
00:28:14 We're going to see you later on. Yeah.
00:28:16 OK? Awesome. Thank you.
00:28:18 Go and celebrate. So far, you're through to the next round.
00:28:21 Thank you, guys. See you later. See you.
00:28:24 Well done, by the way. Thank you.
00:28:27 She was good. Yeah. She was good.
00:28:30 She was a sweet, sweet voice. Yeah, she could be great.
00:28:33 I'm in. Yeah!
00:28:38 (LAUGHS)
00:28:40 What are you doing? I'm so proud of you.
00:28:42 What are you doing?
00:28:44 Oh, my gosh. That was crazy.
00:28:47 That was actually crazy.
00:28:49 Kiani now joins cousins Caleb and Eli in the running
00:28:53 for one of the last few golden tickets.
00:28:56 Next... My name's Prayer Corby.
00:29:00 Prayer? Yeah. Oh, I love that.
00:29:02 ..a special bond...
00:29:04 Is this a dad-daughter thing? Yeah.
00:29:06 ..that's been on the rock for I don't know how long.
00:29:08 ..makes a unique audition...
00:29:10 I thought it was beautiful.
00:29:12 Dad, I did it!
00:29:14 ..and later, it's the most nervous contestant so far.
00:29:18 So, just take a breath. Relax.
00:29:23 Get yourself centred. OK. OK?
00:29:25 Ah, it's just like jumping out of this chair.
00:29:30 ..can he compose himself before it's too late?
00:29:34 You got this, bro. You got this. You got this.
00:29:36 Oh, my gosh.
00:29:43 With only eight golden tickets available,
00:29:55 contestants are trying anything and everything to get one.
00:30:00 If they're great, knock yourself out.
00:30:02 I thought I would skate. Hi.
00:30:04 OK, ladies and gentlemen, it's couple skating only.
00:30:07 Couple skating only. That's you and me, Kyle.
00:30:09 Get ready for the speed round, up next.
00:30:11 There's nothing wrong with fun. You know, I love fun.
00:30:14 Probably change into flat shoes to sing.
00:30:16 What was the point of it, then?
00:30:18 When we say we want you to stand out,
00:30:21 we want you to stand out as a future Australian idol, an artist.
00:30:24 What's your name? My name is Brandon.
00:30:26 I am the best magpie caller in the Southern Hemisphere.
00:30:30 What exactly is a magpie caller?
00:30:32 When you've got magpies getting around,
00:30:34 like that one just over there...
00:30:36 (MAKES MAGPIE NOISES)
00:30:38 ..I can talk to them, like, if you need me to call them in, even.
00:30:41 How's that sound?
00:30:43 (MAKES MAGPIE NOISES)
00:30:46 They normally just all come in and I throw a couple of dog piggies at them.
00:30:54 Hang on, that works? Are you actually speaking their language?
00:30:56 Absolutely. I'm not trying to upstage you.
00:30:58 I've got a pigeon under here.
00:31:00 (MAKES MAGPIE NOISES)
00:31:04 Look.
00:31:06 (MAKES MAGPIE NOISES)
00:31:08 As if I'm making pigeon noises.
00:31:10 Not bad. Not bad. Thank you, thank you.
00:31:12 It does need work. It does.
00:31:14 (LAUGHS)
00:31:15 It's a no from him.
00:31:17 But all the carny behaviour,
00:31:20 it's not necessary, but it keeps the day interesting.
00:31:23 What's Zumba? It's a dance.
00:31:25 Give me a front. Hey!
00:31:27 Hey.
00:31:29 Guys, come on. We're in a class.
00:31:31 OK.
00:31:33 Hey!
00:31:35 As usual, Karl ain't doing nothing.
00:31:37 Right? Right.
00:31:39 The contestants, they want that ticket so bad,
00:31:41 they'll do whatever it takes to get through the audition process.
00:31:44 Woo!
00:31:45 Can you sing or are you just a shake it all about type?
00:31:48 Sing? Yeah.
00:31:51 I can't sing. Let's hear you sing.
00:31:53 # And if you think that I'm still holding on
00:31:58 # To something, you should go and love yourself... #
00:32:02 That's enough.
00:32:04 Thank you.
00:32:05 I love seeing people have fun,
00:32:07 but I just don't think you're there yet.
00:32:09 Cool.
00:32:10 If you come in and somehow you sing a song
00:32:12 and you do it with fun and you're actually good,
00:32:15 we'd probably take even more notice of you.
00:32:17 Yeah.
00:32:20 And to help our next performer stand out from the crowd,
00:32:23 she's brought her very own lucky charm.
00:32:26 How you feeling, Dad? Yeah, I'm feeling good.
00:32:29 Look, calm as a cucumber.
00:32:31 (LAUGHS)
00:32:33 Oh, Dad. Here we go. Alright.
00:32:35 My name's Prer Corby. I'm 23 years old.
00:32:38 I grew up in a small town called Humpty Doo
00:32:42 in Darwin Northern Territory.
00:32:44 Walking in Memphis, you have to agree, Dad,
00:32:46 is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
00:32:49 Except when I sing it.
00:32:51 (LAUGHS)
00:32:53 When I was little, my mum moved to Sydney when I was about five,
00:32:58 and Dad sort of had me full-time from then on.
00:33:01 # What do you know?
00:33:03 # Seems like I'm not as strong as I thought I was feeling so low. #
00:33:08 So, Dad is my best friend.
00:33:11 (LAUGHS)
00:33:13 He has been my rock for I don't know how long.
00:33:16 Do you remember one of the first times you got up with me
00:33:19 at the Humpty Doo pub?
00:33:21 I would have been about six years old.
00:33:23 Yep. In front of the drum kit.
00:33:25 Yep.
00:33:27 (SIGHS)
00:33:29 He's just everything to me, actually.
00:33:31 Um, just quietly, he's my idol.
00:33:34 He's my Australian idol. (LAUGHS)
00:33:37 I used to go to all of Dad's gigs.
00:33:39 He played drums.
00:33:41 Dad did a lot of pub gigs up in Darwin. Still does.
00:33:45 I think seeing Dad do it all the time
00:33:47 definitely drove me to want to do music myself.
00:33:51 And as soon as I could sort of do it all a little bit, I was off.
00:33:55 (LAUGHS) That was it.
00:33:57 I actually played my first radio this year properly, and I had a ball.
00:34:01 Hi. Hi.
00:34:09 How are you? Oh, we've got a couple of you here.
00:34:11 Yeah. Hi.
00:34:13 Is this a dad-daughter thing, or...?
00:34:15 Yeah, yeah. Hey, man, how you doing?
00:34:17 Good. How's it going? Good.
00:34:19 So, what's your name? My name's Prayer Corby.
00:34:21 Prayer? Yeah. Oh, I love that.
00:34:23 Thank you. How nice is that?
00:34:25 That's a lovely name. Yeah.
00:34:27 I'm 23 and from Darwin, Northern Territory.
00:34:29 Your parents, everyone's up in Darwin?
00:34:31 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
00:34:33 What's your name, Dad? Doug.
00:34:35 Doug? Yeah. Sweet.
00:34:37 You've given your daughter such a beautiful name.
00:34:40 G'day, I'm Doug. Love it. You don't get much more Aussie than that.
00:34:43 Dad Doug from Darwin. What do you do, eh, you know?
00:34:46 What are you going to sing?
00:34:48 I'm going to be singing Big Jet Plane by Angus and Julia Stone.
00:34:52 Great song.
00:34:54 Most importantly, breathe.
00:34:57 (EXHALES) Good girl.
00:34:59 Take your time.
00:35:01 Whenever you're ready, darling.
00:35:04 (SPLATS)
00:35:06 (PLAYS GUITAR)
00:35:13 (PLAYS GUITAR)
00:35:19 (PLAYS GUITAR)
00:35:21 # She said, "Have a Mr
00:35:38 "Pleased to meet you
00:35:45 "I want to hold her, I want to kiss her
00:35:50 "She smelled a daisy, smelled a daisy
00:35:59 "Gonna take you for a ride on a big jet plane
00:36:12 "Gonna take you for a ride on a big jet plane
00:36:18 "Hey, yeah
00:36:22 "Hey, yeah... #
00:36:26 Beautiful. That's it. Really good.
00:36:28 # Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
00:36:36 # Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
00:36:42 # Hey, yeah... #
00:36:48 You all right? Sorry.
00:36:59 I wasn't as happy with that performance.
00:37:03 Cos I saw you roll your eyes. Yeah.
00:37:06 Really, I did not sing that note.
00:37:09 Right? I did not play that note.
00:37:12 You know, a large part of any performance
00:37:15 is connecting to an audience. Yeah.
00:37:17 OK? So you've got pretty eyes.
00:37:20 And you've got to learn to look up. OK?
00:37:24 You've got to learn to look up and try and connect,
00:37:27 cos that's not going to fly on television. Yeah.
00:37:30 And when you make a mistake, keep it to yourself. OK.
00:37:34 OK? You know what?
00:37:36 As much as you're disappointed...
00:37:39 ..I thought it was beautiful. Thank you.
00:37:45 I did. Thank you.
00:37:46 Man, I... I think you are something else.
00:37:51 That was really special. Thank you.
00:37:55 You've got a beautiful tone. Thank you.
00:37:58 You're such a great guitar player.
00:38:00 OK. I'm going to say...
00:38:05 ..yes.
00:38:07 Thank you.
00:38:09 You?
00:38:11 I'm backing up my mate Amy's shark here.
00:38:14 It's a yes from me.
00:38:15 Thank you.
00:38:17 So you only need two yeses. OK?
00:38:19 So I'll say, um...
00:38:21 ..yeah, two.
00:38:23 Thank you so much. You're welcome. You're welcome.
00:38:26 Dad, I did it! Congratulations.
00:38:28 She did it, Dad. Welcome to the next stage.
00:38:31 I hope you kill it. Thank you.
00:38:33 Thanks, Dad. Appreciate it. Thank you.
00:38:35 Good, Zach. Eh?
00:38:37 Oh, my God!
00:38:41 Thank you.
00:38:42 Thank you.
00:38:43 I was a bit stressed.
00:38:46 I'm marked up at the start.
00:38:48 I feel like she changed up that song in such a cool way,
00:38:51 and it definitely did make me feel nervous,
00:38:53 especially knowing that she's also doing guitar.
00:38:56 I feel like I have a pretty good shot,
00:38:58 but then again, there's a lot of amazing people,
00:39:01 everyone's different styles, different genres.
00:39:03 I've waited my whole life for this kind of opportunity,
00:39:06 so I'm going to give it my all.
00:39:08 Oh, Caleb, that's still actually between me and you as well.
00:39:13 It is.
00:39:14 I forget that it's between me and you just as much
00:39:16 as it is between me and anyone else.
00:39:17 If one of us makes it through and the other doesn't,
00:39:19 they've just got to carry the whole band on the back.
00:39:21 I trust either one of us to do that.
00:39:23 I feel a little bit out of my depth.
00:39:25 So sorry.
00:39:37 I'll take another one.
00:39:38 This one. I wrote 22 last time.
00:39:40 22, yeah.
00:39:41 All right, here we go.
00:39:44 OK.
00:39:45 Here we go.
00:39:46 I did a lot of sharing when I was a kid.
00:39:48 Guys, take it down.
00:39:51 We're about to have a guest.
00:39:52 Listen, mate.
00:39:54 Got a coffee there, you've got to get rid of that.
00:39:56 She's reading your ass.
00:39:59 Sit up straight.
00:40:00 It's worse than the wife.
00:40:02 It's a work wife, they're worse.
00:40:04 With the penultimate audition day nearly over,
00:40:10 our second-to-last performer is hoping to receive
00:40:13 one of the few remaining golden tickets
00:40:16 by rocking the judges' world.
00:40:18 Hello, everybody. This is me, Olivia Fitzgerald.
00:40:22 # I'm so hot, I'm still a rock star
00:40:25 # I got my rock and roll
00:40:27 # And I don't want you at night... #
00:40:30 My name is Olivia Britton, I'm 22 and I'm from Wodonga.
00:40:34 I grew up in Wodonga most of my life, really.
00:40:37 My love of music definitely came from my mum.
00:40:41 She's a singer and has been a singer her whole life.
00:40:44 So growing up, there was a lot of music.
00:40:46 She's definitely inspired me as an artist and as a mum.
00:40:50 She's my best friend as well.
00:40:52 I think performing rock music, I just love the power of it.
00:40:57 I don't think idols have ever seen a rock chick before,
00:41:01 so I would love for young girls to look up to someone
00:41:03 that does have that edginess.
00:41:05 I want to be a role model.
00:41:07 It's my dream, it's my love,
00:41:09 and I'm hoping that that can take me all the way.
00:41:12 (FOOTSTEPS)
00:41:14 She's got a cool look. She looks like a rocker.
00:41:20 She's a bit of a rocker, yeah.
00:41:22 She takes after me. No, she doesn't.
00:41:24 (LAUGHS)
00:41:25 Hi, guys. Hey.
00:41:27 Hey. You look nice.
00:41:29 Thank you. It's nice to finally be up here.
00:41:31 Turning up with the denim and the leopard skin.
00:41:34 Yes, girl. Thanks, Marsha.
00:41:36 You're welcome.
00:41:37 You're a performer, I can tell already, right?
00:41:39 Yeah. Legit, you've done this before.
00:41:41 I've done this my whole life.
00:41:42 What's your name? Olivia.
00:41:44 What are you going to sing?
00:41:46 I'm going to sing I Kissed a Girl by Katy Perry.
00:41:48 Of course you are. Of course I am.
00:41:50 Is that your genre? Pop?
00:41:52 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Pop rock.
00:41:54 Rock influences are coming in.
00:41:56 Excellent. Well, let's hope you have the right performance.
00:41:59 Let's do it. When you're ready.
00:42:01 (SIGHS)
00:42:08 (MUSIC PLAYS)
00:42:11 # This was never the way I planned
00:42:15 # Not my intention
00:42:18 # I got so brave drinking and
00:42:22 # Lost my discretion
00:42:25 # It's not what I'm used to
00:42:29 # Just want to try you on
00:42:33 # I'm curious for you
00:42:37 # Caught my attention
00:42:41 # I kissed a girl, I liked it
00:42:44 # Faced off her, Jerry Chapstick
00:42:48 # I kissed a girl, just a try it
00:42:52 # Oh, my boyfriend, oh, my dad
00:42:55 # Us girls, we are so magical
00:42:59 # Too good to deny it
00:43:03 # Ain't no big deal, it's innocent
00:43:10 # I kissed a girl, I liked it
00:43:14 # I liked it. #
00:43:18 Did you now?
00:43:21 (LAUGHS)
00:43:22 Was it as good as you thought it was gonna be?
00:43:24 I think I did OK. I think you did OK as well.
00:43:27 Is OK good enough to kick you off to the next round?
00:43:32 What did you guys think?
00:43:33 I think I'd like to see you with your hat off,
00:43:35 cos I think it's a good prop, that hat.
00:43:38 Oh, you're making... My sweaty hat.
00:43:40 She'll be fine.
00:43:41 I didn't like that. I didn't mind that.
00:43:43 I like the hat, but I like this better.
00:43:45 You look gorgeous, don't worry.
00:43:46 When you started being so animated,
00:43:50 I got, like, a little bit worried.
00:43:53 I was like, cos sometimes that can be so cringey for me.
00:43:56 I'm just like, I always brace myself,
00:43:58 but I didn't feel that with you.
00:43:59 I felt like that is who you are.
00:44:03 Um...
00:44:04 We're gonna talk about you for a second.
00:44:07 Go for it.
00:44:08 We've got a lot of pop folk put through already,
00:44:12 but we don't really...
00:44:13 We've got the Rocky vibe.
00:44:14 Yeah, I agree.
00:44:15 And we are trying to get as much variety on the show as possible.
00:44:19 Can you hear us?
00:44:20 I can, sorry.
00:44:22 (LAUGHS)
00:44:23 Gee, I should have asked this on day one.
00:44:25 (LAUGHS)
00:44:26 You really want it, or are you just feeling into it?
00:44:28 Really, really want it.
00:44:29 Really, really, really?
00:44:30 Really, really, really.
00:44:31 You've got some really nice tones in your voice.
00:44:34 So, for me, I'm gonna say yes.
00:44:36 I think you could do well in this comp.
00:44:38 Thank you, Marsha.
00:44:39 Well, you need two yeses.
00:44:41 (SIGHS)
00:44:45 Um...
00:44:48 Sometimes when I'm tossing and turning yes or no,
00:44:52 I always default to no,
00:44:54 because I want yeses to be so definite.
00:44:57 Definite?
00:44:58 Yeah.
00:44:59 Sorry, I have to say no.
00:45:03 OK.
00:45:04 Just quickly, how do you feel?
00:45:08 That was exactly what I want to be as an artist.
00:45:11 This is my life.
00:45:12 Like, this is me.
00:45:14 Music is me.
00:45:15 Um...
00:45:16 I'm gonna say yes too.
00:45:23 Well, there you go.
00:45:24 One, two.
00:45:25 Welcome to the next round.
00:45:27 Thank you.
00:45:28 Congratulations.
00:45:29 Thank you, guys. Thank you so much.
00:45:31 Goodbye.
00:45:32 Out the tunnel.
00:45:33 She's good.
00:45:34 She's cool.
00:45:35 It was a lot.
00:45:36 It was very animated.
00:45:37 # I'm ready to be free... #
00:45:42 I got through! I got through!
00:45:44 (ALL CHEER)
00:45:46 I got through!
00:45:47 You did it. You sounded amazing.
00:45:49 I did.
00:45:50 (ALL CHEER)
00:45:52 Olivia is our fifth singer fighting for a place in the top 30.
00:45:57 And hoping to be doing the same is the last singer of the day,
00:46:03 who's also from a musical family.
00:46:05 My name is Kobe White.
00:46:07 I'm 24 and I'm from Melbourne.
00:46:09 When I'm not singing, I work with my dad at the family food truck.
00:46:15 One burger coming up.
00:46:17 I'm quite a shy person,
00:46:19 but I grew up around an entertaining family,
00:46:22 singing in festivals and bars and playing with my uncle's bands.
00:46:27 And I loved music from the beginning.
00:46:30 You feeling all right? You look a bit nervous.
00:46:34 No, I'm good. I'm good. I think we're good.
00:46:36 So just take a breath. Relax.
00:46:38 Get yourself centred. OK?
00:46:40 You got this.
00:46:41 OK, let's go.
00:46:42 (EXHALES)
00:46:47 Oh, it's just, like, jumping out of his chest.
00:46:50 Wow. It's a big opportunity.
00:46:52 And it's scary, it's terrifying.
00:46:54 So this is the moment to walk in there and, like, take it.
00:46:58 Yeah.
00:46:59 (EXHALES)
00:47:02 You got this, bro. You got this. You got this. You got this.
00:47:06 (CLEARS THROAT)
00:47:08 Oh, my gosh.
00:47:12 (CLEARS THROAT)
00:47:15 (INHALES, EXHALES)
00:47:17 Here we go.
00:47:20 Hi. Hi, guys.
00:47:21 Hey, dude. Hello. How are you?
00:47:24 How are you? I'm good. I'm good.
00:47:26 Cool.
00:47:27 What's your name?
00:47:29 My name is Kobe Wyatt,
00:47:31 and the song that I'm singing today is Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars.
00:47:35 OK. So how much does all this mean to you?
00:47:40 Oh, he means a lot to me.
00:47:42 He's one of my role models, one of my idols growing up.
00:47:45 But what does trying to win Australian Idol mean to you?
00:47:48 It's OK, darling. You don't have to be sorry.
00:47:50 I truly believe that I was meant to be here.
00:47:53 OK.
00:47:54 And I truly believe that I was meant to be a musician and to be an artist,
00:47:58 and I believe that I can be great.
00:48:00 All right. Well, this is a big day for you.
00:48:03 This is a big audition. So you're playing piano?
00:48:05 Yes.
00:48:06 All right. Well, when you're ready, this is your time.
00:48:09 So take whatever time you need.
00:48:11 OK. Thank you.
00:48:12 Wow, this is a really nice piano.
00:48:39 Hey, Kobe. Kobe, stop.
00:48:41 No. Sorry.
00:48:44 Stand up for me.
00:48:51 You know the song really well, right?
00:49:01 Yes.
00:49:02 Sing it for me without that piano.
00:49:04 OK.
00:49:05 Breathe.
00:49:06 Yeah.
00:49:07 Calm yourself down.
00:49:09 At your leisure.
00:49:11 Timing much better.
00:49:37 When I see your face, baby
00:49:42 There's not a thing that I would change
00:49:47 'Cause you're amazing
00:49:50 Just the way you are
00:49:54 The way you are
00:49:58 The way you are
00:50:03 My baby, you're so amazing
00:50:08 Just the way you are
00:50:12 Yeah. Now that's what I'm talking about. See?
00:50:16 Yeah.
00:50:17 Wasn't that better for you?
00:50:18 Yeah, a little better.
00:50:19 Yeah, 'cause that piano was in the way, honey.
00:50:21 It was just in the way, you know?
00:50:23 I can hear your voice, but I couldn't hear it with the piano.
00:50:27 And thank you for using me and doing what I asked you to do.
00:50:30 Of course.
00:50:31 I think you did a really good job.
00:50:33 You've got a really cool voice.
00:50:35 Thank you so much.
00:50:36 What a throat on him.
00:50:37 Look at the size of the throat on the bloke for a start.
00:50:40 It's no wonder it sounds so amazing.
00:50:42 Yeah.
00:50:43 Mate, you could be something really quite good
00:50:46 because I was drawn into watching.
00:50:48 Even when you were mucking around behind the piano,
00:50:50 I didn't want you to have to walk out the door.
00:50:52 Yeah.
00:50:53 But I think that he's great. A lot of nerves there.
00:50:55 Yeah.
00:50:56 I'm torn because I can see you're a muso.
00:51:00 I would have wanted you to know when you're playing too hard.
00:51:05 You know, the dynamics is key.
00:51:07 Yeah.
00:51:08 So you can let your voice go and know to not, you know...
00:51:10 Colby, you don't have to do all those licks.
00:51:12 OK.
00:51:13 Yeah.
00:51:14 Licking like a thirsty lizard.
00:51:15 Yeah.
00:51:16 Lick, lick, lick, lick.
00:51:17 I feel like I want to see you go through to the next round.
00:51:21 So it's a yes from me.
00:51:24 Thank you. Thank you so much.
00:51:27 I think you're excellent,
00:51:30 but you knew you screwed up a little bit.
00:51:33 Yeah.
00:51:34 But I believe that we didn't see the best of your ability today.
00:51:37 Yeah.
00:51:38 So I'm going to fire off a yes.
00:51:41 And we'd love to see you again.
00:51:43 Thank you so much.
00:51:44 But you can't be every second time the nerves destabilising.
00:51:48 You've got to harness that rubbish.
00:51:50 Mm-hm.
00:51:51 And I only want to see greatness.
00:51:52 OK.
00:51:53 Listen, nerves are great.
00:51:55 Use them, but don't let them use you.
00:51:58 What's your vote, Marsha?
00:51:59 It's a hell yeah.
00:52:00 You got three yeses.
00:52:01 Thank you.
00:52:02 You're going through, Colby.
00:52:03 Thank you.
00:52:04 Colby, well done, mate.
00:52:05 You deserve it.
00:52:06 Thank you so much.
00:52:07 Go and celebrate.
00:52:08 Yeah, I will try.
00:52:09 Thank you.
00:52:10 Thank you, Colby.
00:52:11 Thank you.
00:52:12 Yeah, I like that.
00:52:13 I really like him.
00:52:14 Yeah, I like him too.
00:52:15 Yeah.
00:52:20 [Screams]
00:52:21 [Applause]
00:52:22 Oh.
00:52:23 Oh.
00:52:25 Well, that was really nerve-wracking.
00:52:28 Next, Kyle takes to the skies.
00:52:31 Hopefully we snuck in.
00:52:33 To see if a wild card has what it takes.
00:52:36 You had no rehearsal time.
00:52:38 You didn't get to look in the mirror and do the...
00:52:40 Mm, mm, mm.
00:52:42 None of that.
00:52:43 And then, final judgements.
00:52:46 This has been a very, very tough decision-making day.
00:52:50 Whose stays?
00:52:51 There is one ticket.
00:52:54 And who goes?
00:52:56 With final decisions fast approaching,
00:53:09 Caleb, Eli, Kiani, Prayer, Olivia, and now Colby,
00:53:15 are nervously waiting to see if they've cemented
00:53:18 their place in the top 30.
00:53:21 Watching the other auditions does make me nervous
00:53:23 because there's only 30 golden tickets handed out
00:53:26 and I really want one.
00:53:28 The competition's wild.
00:53:30 But what they don't know is that the judges
00:53:32 have a wild card up their sleeve.
00:53:36 Each judge has scoured Australia to ensure no stone
00:53:40 is left unturned in discovering the next idol.
00:53:46 We wanted to cover as much ground as possible this year
00:53:49 so we'll go anywhere we need to go
00:53:51 just to hear anyone that wants to audition.
00:53:54 Even if we've got to dust off the chopper to do it.
00:53:58 I've flown up to Bonnells Bay in New South Wales
00:54:01 to see a singer that couldn't actually make it to the auditions
00:54:04 so I hope she's got everything it takes
00:54:06 and she has a great audition.
00:54:09 Hopefully we snuck in and no-one knows we're here.
00:54:14 (BIRDS CHIRP)
00:54:16 I'm on the Australian Idol search.
00:54:18 You'll be too old. You'll be too old.
00:54:20 You'll be too old.
00:54:22 Shut up.
00:54:24 This is our daughter, Nakeisha.
00:54:26 And she's going to be the next Australian Idol.
00:54:29 Living here in Bonnells Bay,
00:54:32 our community's so tight and close together.
00:54:35 We all think of ourselves as family around here
00:54:38 and my family has been here for generations.
00:54:41 I've grown up here, my parents have been here for a long time,
00:54:44 my husband's parents have been here since they were little.
00:54:47 It's amazing. Why wouldn't you want to be here?
00:54:50 Locals, they always ask, "How are you doing?
00:54:54 "How are your gigs going? How's your singing going?"
00:54:56 I have been singing all my life.
00:54:58 Music, I need it, otherwise, you know, I'm just not myself.
00:55:03 I feel like I'm ready to take that next step into my music career.
00:55:07 I'm really excited to keep going on this journey
00:55:10 and see where it takes me.
00:55:12 This is it. This is where she is.
00:55:17 Let's sneak up on this woman.
00:55:19 Look who's come to see you.
00:55:21 I heard that you wanted to audition,
00:55:23 but Slave Driver Mother wouldn't allow you to have the day off.
00:55:26 You feeling sing-ready? Sure.
00:55:28 What do you think you'd sing?
00:55:30 Trouble by Pink.
00:55:31 She's got a repertoire. She's all over it.
00:55:33 Well, let's blow this joint, put clothes for ten minutes.
00:55:36 Sorry.
00:55:38 There's no massages or toenail polishing.
00:55:41 Oh, wow, this is happening, hey?
00:55:43 I've got to tell you something. Yeah?
00:55:47 Just 'cause I've flown here in a huge helicopter
00:55:49 and taken up 900 car spots
00:55:51 does not mean you're guaranteed to go through.
00:55:53 She's going to sing Pink Trouble.
00:55:55 Enjoy. You've got a nice big spot here
00:55:57 and everyone wants you to do well.
00:55:59 Yeah!
00:56:00 Take a big, deep breath.
00:56:06 This is Masha Hinds' sort of advice.
00:56:08 Get yourself in the zone
00:56:10 and give us your best audition.
00:56:12 Yeah. Good luck.
00:56:14 Thank you.
00:56:15 # No attorneys to plead my case
00:56:20 # No best to send me into outer space
00:56:24 # And my fingers are bejewelled
00:56:27 # With dimes and gold
00:56:29 # But that ain't gonna help me now
00:56:31 # I'm trouble, yeah, trouble now
00:56:34 Let's go. # I'm trouble, y'all
00:56:36 # I got trouble in my town
00:56:38 # I'm trouble, yeah, trouble now
00:56:42 # I'm trouble, y'all
00:56:43 # I got trouble in my town
00:56:45 # You think you're right
00:56:47 # But you were wrong
00:56:48 Go for it. # You tried to take me
00:56:50 # But I knew all along
00:56:52 # You can take me here for a ride
00:56:56 # I'm not a fool now
00:56:58 # So you better not... # Let's go!
00:57:00 # I'm trouble, yeah, trouble now
00:57:03 # I'm trouble, y'all
00:57:05 # I got trouble in my town
00:57:07 # Yeah, yeah... #
00:57:09 Oh!
00:57:10 CHEERING
00:57:12 Bro!
00:57:14 Well done, man.
00:57:16 You had no rehearsal time.
00:57:18 You didn't get to practise all day.
00:57:21 You didn't get to look in the mirror and do the...
00:57:23 Mmm, mmm, mmm.
00:57:25 None of that.
00:57:26 So, seriously, that's impressive. I liked it.
00:57:29 I think she's got a unique sound.
00:57:31 Do you think she'll get through?
00:57:33 I know you said you were nervous, but I didn't see it,
00:57:37 and that's what I liked. Yeah.
00:57:39 So, if it's all right with your mum,
00:57:41 we'd love to bring you through to the next round...
00:57:44 CHEERING
00:57:47 ..of Australia Night.
00:57:48 Oh, oh, oh!
00:57:50 Oh, being bombarded by women!
00:57:52 Oh, look at you going!
00:57:54 You did it!
00:57:55 Oh, my God!
00:57:57 Well done, honey.
00:57:58 Really, really, you did a fantastic job.
00:58:00 And if you can grow from here, anything can happen.
00:58:04 Oh, my God, I might cry!
00:58:06 Oh, my God!
00:58:10 Next...
00:58:11 The calibre and the level of talent has blown us all away.
00:58:15 Good people every week will go home.
00:58:17 With golden tickets in short supply, but such strong talent...
00:58:21 Last season, we probably would have put you through.
00:58:24 ..the judges are forced to make tough decisions.
00:58:29 I'll tell you now, we're gonna put one of you through.
00:58:33 Not both of you.
00:58:40 So far, the judges have seen hundreds of auditions,
00:58:54 and with the number of golden tickets dwindling
00:58:57 and another full day of auditions still ahead,
00:59:00 the decision on who to put through to the top 30
00:59:04 is more difficult than ever.
00:59:06 Straightaway, my favourite is this girl.
00:59:08 OK.
00:59:09 I really liked her. This girl.
00:59:11 As if we're ever gonna forget prayer.
00:59:13 And I liked Olivia.
00:59:15 Remember, she was really tall and she had that...
00:59:17 Yeah. She had a bit of pop star aura.
00:59:19 I feel like he might be stronger. I agree.
00:59:22 I like Colby. I thought Colby was really cool.
00:59:24 Colby's great. Colby's beautiful.
00:59:26 Yeah. Nicky's...
00:59:27 I flew in the chopper to see her.
00:59:29 OK, you have a look. What do you think?
00:59:31 I can see why you liked her. Yeah.
00:59:33 So they're definite. He's definite.
00:59:36 We can keep one of these. I think...
00:59:38 We've got a good idea. I think so.
00:59:40 Of what to do. OK. You guys happy? Yeah.
00:59:42 And the first to discover their fate
00:59:47 are cousins Caleb and Eli and nerve-stricken Colby.
00:59:51 # Gonna be the lonely one
00:59:55 # Do you believe in life after love?
01:00:00 # To keep her warm in time
01:00:04 # Is frozen
01:00:07 # Cos you're amazing
01:00:10 # Just the way you are. #
01:00:14 You guys all feeling all right? Nervous.
01:00:17 No. Nervous. A little nervous.
01:00:19 All right, boys. Good luck.
01:00:21 Thank you. See you when you come back this way.
01:00:23 Come back this way.
01:00:24 Gentlemen. Hello. Hello.
01:00:33 Yeah, the boys. Yeah, the boys.
01:00:35 How you doing? Hey, fellas.
01:00:37 Thanks for hanging around.
01:00:39 Oh, man, it's been a very, very tough, tough decision-making day.
01:00:45 Mm.
01:00:46 Last season, we probably would have been like,
01:00:49 "You know what? You're all pretty good."
01:00:51 And put you through.
01:00:53 I'm going to just get to it. OK.
01:00:56 OK? So, we'll start with Caleb.
01:00:59 Hello.
01:01:00 You sung Cher, Believer.
01:01:03 It wasn't perfect.
01:01:06 Um...
01:01:07 A little shaky. Mm.
01:01:10 Unfortunately, Caleb, you're not going through.
01:01:14 OK.
01:01:16 I'm really sorry. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting you.
01:01:19 And hopefully you keep going with this, because you do have something.
01:01:23 You all right, Caleb? Thanks, guys. Yeah.
01:01:27 Thank you, Caleb.
01:01:29 OK, now for the rest of you.
01:01:34 There's something about both of you.
01:01:38 And this has been very, very difficult.
01:01:45 Kobe...
01:01:46 You were nervous, and I said that during your audition.
01:01:50 Eli wasn't the best vocals in your audition.
01:01:57 We said that to you.
01:01:59 So...
01:02:02 I'm sorry to say that...
01:02:07 You're both going through!
01:02:10 Oh, my gosh!
01:02:12 Woo-hoo!
01:02:14 Woo-hoo!
01:02:15 I did not see that coming. I didn't see that coming, mate.
01:02:18 That's my acting skills, baby. Come and get your tickets.
01:02:20 Oh, my gosh!
01:02:22 Thank you so much. Oh, my God.
01:02:25 You're so welcome, guys. Well done, bro.
01:02:27 Well done, mate. Excellent work. Thank you.
01:02:28 Go out there and celebrate. One of you, make some noise.
01:02:31 Thank you. Let's go!
01:02:33 Whoa!
01:02:34 Woo-hoo!
01:02:37 My hands are going!
01:02:39 Congratulations!
01:02:40 Oh, my gosh! This is so cool!
01:02:42 Congrats!
01:02:43 Thank you so much.
01:02:44 Oh, it's so good!
01:02:46 It's a reigning golden ticket!
01:02:48 Let's go, buddy!
01:02:49 Next to face the judges is Kyle's wildcard, Nikesha,
01:02:55 and the teenager from Bribie Island, Kiani.
01:02:58 # Ooh, it's time to go
01:03:01 # Nothing I'm problem singing, vibe, vibe, vibe
01:03:03 # Hold up if you wanna go and check her out
01:03:06 # Baby, now, baby, one more time
01:03:09 # You can take me for a ride
01:03:12 # I'm not a fool now
01:03:14 # So you better run and hide
01:03:16 # I'm trouble, yeah, trouble now. #
01:03:20 I'm so lucky that I've been chosen to do this.
01:03:24 I'm ecstatic. I can't even put into words how excited I am.
01:03:29 If I got a golden ticket today, oh, my gosh,
01:03:33 I don't think I'd ever sleep again.
01:03:35 I'd be that excited!
01:03:37 All right, guys, moment of truth. Good luck.
01:03:40 Good luck in there. Thank you.
01:03:42 Hi, ladies.
01:03:51 Hi. Hello. Hey.
01:03:53 Kiani, welcome back. Thank you.
01:03:56 Now, ladies, you haven't met Nikesha. No.
01:03:58 I've shown Marsha and Amy your audition that we taped.
01:04:01 I think that was a really strong audition.
01:04:04 We only put people through to this round
01:04:07 that we really think has a chance of winning... Yes.
01:04:10 ..that we believe in their talent,
01:04:12 and I'll tell you now, we're gonna put one of you through.

01:04:52 Nikesha, I think you did an incredible job.
01:04:56 I think you did really great.
01:04:58 Hopefully, you'll come and see us next year to know from us.
01:05:08 Thanks, Nikesha. Sorry. Thank you, Nikesha.
01:05:11 See yous.
01:05:13 Now, Kiani... Yeah.
01:05:18 ..what that means for you, which is great news,
01:05:21 and we're all thrilled, you've got the ticket, babe.
01:05:26 This is for you. Well done. Congratulations, man.
01:05:28 The golden ticket. Do I take all of them?
01:05:30 No, you get one. One will do. One is access.
01:05:33 Congratulations. Congratulations.
01:05:35 That was really great. Thank you.
01:05:37 That was amazing. Hey, you're really good.
01:05:39 Yeah. We really believe in you
01:05:41 and we think you've got everything it needs
01:05:43 to maybe get right to the end.
01:05:45 Woo! Go celebrate.
01:05:47 Thank you so much. Yes.
01:05:49 Go down the golden tunnel.
01:05:51 Thank you, guys. You're welcome.
01:05:53 Well done. Go and celebrate, hun.
01:05:55 And when you get out there, let everyone else know
01:05:57 because they all want that ticket.
01:05:59 I got it! I got it! I got it! I got it!
01:06:04 Aw!
01:06:06 The feeling of being one step closer to the Australian Idol
01:06:12 is amazing. I can't believe I came this far
01:06:14 and I'm so glad I auditioned in the first place.
01:06:17 Show me that golden ticket, girlfriends.
01:06:19 Look at that!
01:06:21 It's now down to the last two singers of the day -
01:06:26 rocker Olivia and prayer from Humpty Doo.
01:06:30 # I kissed a girl just to try it
01:06:33 # Oh, my boyfriend, oh, my dad
01:06:37 # Gonna take you for a ride on a big jet plane
01:06:42 # And I'm gonna love you forever
01:06:45 # Yeah
01:06:48 Whatever happens, happens, right?
01:06:50 You just have to take it as it comes. Exactly right.
01:06:52 We're both going in after years of performing with our parents,
01:06:55 so I think that we're both just like...
01:06:57 I love them. Yeah, do it for them.
01:06:59 I love you guys. OK. Good luck.
01:07:01 Good luck. Thank you. Thank you.
01:07:11 Ooh, the girls. Hello, hello.
01:07:13 Oh, ladies. Hi. Welcome back.
01:07:16 Hi. Thank you.
01:07:18 Well... It's the tough part.
01:07:23 This is the real tough part, cos we've been trying to work out
01:07:26 what you have both brought to Australian Idol.
01:07:29 You know, and you all bring really...
01:07:34 ..very loaded gifts.
01:07:36 You've done very well, both of you. Thank you.
01:07:40 It's really eye-opening, the talent this year.
01:07:44 The decisions aren't easy.
01:07:47 So who deserves the golden ticket?
01:07:54 Olivia, you can come forward and get your golden ticket.
01:08:00 Come and get your ticket, darling.
01:08:02 Well done. Well done.
01:08:07 You deserve this. Thank you.
01:08:09 You are more than welcome. OK?
01:08:11 I'm going to call my mum. Yeah.
01:08:13 Go and ring your mother. Go and celebrate.
01:08:15 Well done. Thank you. You deserve your place.
01:08:18 Golden ticket for Olivia.
01:08:20 Good luck, good luck, good luck.
01:08:22 All the luck.
01:08:24 Priya, that leaves you.
01:08:32 How do you feel now?
01:08:36 Yeah, look, I'm all right. I'm good.
01:08:38 I'm crazy.
01:08:40 I'm happy that Olivia got that. I really am.
01:08:42 Well, that's very sweet.
01:08:44 Cos, you know, I'm a great believer whatever's yours,
01:08:47 nobody, nobody...
01:08:49 ..is going to take away.
01:08:52 Trust me on this.
01:08:55 You've got a beautiful voice. Thank you.
01:08:57 And it's important that you step up and you be who you are.
01:09:01 Yeah. Come here.
01:09:05 Come and get your golden ticket.
01:09:07 Oh! You're going through too.
01:09:10 Yeah. Oh, my God.
01:09:12 Yeah. Oh!
01:09:14 Thank you. You're welcome.
01:09:16 Oh, my. I'm shaking.

01:10:48 There's nowhere to hide
01:10:50 I'm buzzing.
01:10:52 I've got the goosebumps.
01:10:54 I don't get goosebumps.
01:10:56 I'm upset.
01:10:58 Which means the bad will sound
01:11:00 I'm a bad guy.
01:11:02 Bad.
01:11:04 Not only
01:11:06 are you a bad guy,
01:11:08 but also a bad singer.
01:11:10 There's no room for that rubbish.
01:11:12 But one performance
01:11:14 is so extraordinary.
01:11:16 What the hell is this?
01:11:18 It will make Australian Idol history.
01:11:20 Let's just give him a golden ticket.
