A clay-court event in Argentina has attracted attention for all the wrong reasons as eyeball-popping pornographic footage was shown on a big screen on the first day of the tournament.
A tennis tournament in Argentina was disrupted by a pornographic video appearing on a giant screen.
The ATP 250 tournament got underway in Cordoba, Argentina, on Monday (February 5). But the event was engulfed in controversy on the first day as a huge TV screen at the venue showed two individuals engaged in various sexual acts.
It attracted plenty of attention on social media after a video went viral showing the porn movie in full flow while fans present at the scene were left flabbergasted. It appeared to take place within the grounds at the Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes, in front of a small group of fans who were near the food and drinks seating area outside one of the courts.
Reports in Argentina claim the video went on for several minutes. And tournament officials are yet to offer an explanation regarding what happened.
The Cordoba Open is a clay court event boasting a field of 28 players. It was held for the first time in 2019, with a total prize pool of £511,000 on offer.
It is being headlined by local stars Francisco Cerundolo, Sebastian Baez and Tomas Martin Etcheverry, who beat Andy Murray in the first round of the Australian Open last month.
One household name who responded to the bizarre porn incident at the tournament was 2022 Australian Open doubles winner Thanasi Kokkinakis. He was left in hysterics as he responded to the clip on X with the words: “Hahahaha I’m done,” along with a laughing face emoji.
Stunned X users were also left in tears of laughter as they commented: “Well that’s one way to attract people to come and watch the tennis,” and: “Someone is definitely losing their job today.”
A third joked: “I don’t think that’s how you’re meant to grip a racquet,” and a fourth chimed in with: “HAHAHAHAHA I HAVEN'T PLAYED TENNIS IN A LONG TIME, BUT THAT'S NOT A RACQUET I THINK.”
