India emerged victorious with a comfortable win in the match against Afghanistan. The disciplined bowling performance by the Indian team played a crucial role in restricting Afghanistan to a total of 158 runs on a favorable batting pitch. It was primarily due to the notable half-century partnership between Omarzai and Nabi that Afghanistan managed to surpass the 150-run mark.
In response, India faced an early setback when Rohit Sharma was dismissed without scoring a single run in the opening over, with his partner preoccupied. However, Gill showcased his talent by hitting five boundaries, although his impressive cameo came to an end when Mujeeb dismissed him.
Initially, India had a slow start with only 36 runs scored during the powerplay. Nevertheless, they soon raised the tempo. Tilak Varma became the second Indian batsman to be dismissed after scoring in the twenties. Jitesh Sharma and Shivam Dube then built a strong partnership of 45 runs for the fourth wicket, ensuring India had the upper hand in the pursuit of the target.
Although the wicketkeeper-batsman succumbed while attempting a big shot, Dube displayed remarkable resilience throughout the innings. He achieved a half-century, contributed to three partnerships exceeding 40 runs, and remained unbeaten, ultimately guiding India to victory with the winning runs.
