Volvo Trucks has launched an all-new Volvo VNL in North America to set new industry standards in heavy truck transportation. The new truck improves fuel efficiency by up to 10%.
The new Class 8 Volvo VNL is designed to meet the challenges and demands of the North American market and transform the driving experience in this segment.

“The all-new Volvo VNL is designed to change everything.

The new Volvo VNL is based on a completely new platform for all future technologies, including battery electric, fuel cell and internal combustion engines running on renewable fuels including hydrogen. The first 24-volt electrical infrastructure in the North American trucking industry and the active safety features offered in this next generation of Volvo trucks will be the standard for the future commercialization of fully autonomous trucks.

Aerodynamic drag has a huge impact on a truck's fuel efficiency. The new Volvo VNL's aerodynamics and more angular, wedge-shaped cabin design, together with the redesigned windshield, are key factors in achieving up to a 10% improvement in fuel efficiency. Additional aerodynamic gains were created by the integration of the curved and bonded windshield, narrower clearances in turbulent airfields and a narrower trailer clearance.

The new Volvo VNL is powered by the latest generation D13 engine, offering improved fuel efficiency, performance and durability. The D13 engine is available in four horsepower ratings ranging from 405 to 500 hp and three torque ratings from 2370 to 2640 Nm.

The new truck offers a variety of new active safety systems, including Volvo Active Driver Assist Plus with Pilot Assist that provides active lane centering. This system is supported by Volvo Dynamic Steering, which improves maneuvering at all speeds, including more controlled assist, and improves stability at all road speeds.

Class-leading passive safety systems offered on the new Volvo VNL include a bonded and wrapped windshield that increases drivers' visibility, enhances safety and reduces wind noise in the cabin. The cabin of the new Volvo VNL has been designed to Volvo Trucks' leading crash test standards and will be offered with side curtain airbags, an industry first in North America, on the driver and passenger sides of the cabin.
