A sensational volley from Qatar captain Hassan Al-Haydos at the Asian Cup has been hailed as 'pure filth' by fans, who compared the strike from a corner to a set-up by David Beckham and Paul Scholes.

Al-Haydos' thunderbolt was worthy of winning any game and it did just that for Qatar as the sole strike in their 1-0 group stage win over China.

The 33-year-old showed the amazing technique to latch onto a floated corner sent straight to the edge of the box - shifting his body position before letting fly straight on the volley, leaning back ever so slightly, and putting his foot through the ball.

He then watched his strike fly at speed into the top left-hand corner past the helpless China keeper Yan Junling, before being mobbed by his teammates - as even the substitutes raced onto the pitch to join in with the celebrations.

The strike has already been dubbed the 'goal of the tournament' as fans pitched in to rave about the sensational hit.

One fan immediately drew comparisons to a goal crafted by Beckham and finished off by Scholes.

'It's Beckham's corner... and Scholes! What a hit, son,' they wrote.

Another said: 'Scholes used to score screamers like that all the time.'

One said the goal 'gets better with each watch', adding: 'The left foot coming off the ground makes it even better somehow.'

Others described the goal as 'Puskas material' and 'pure filth' as social media united to rave about the technique.

Another added: 'There will be some (nonfootball) people that won't see the beauty in this.'

Qatar had already qualified for the next round of the tournament going into this game but refused to take their foot off the gas pedal as they finished with nine points.

The hosts of the 2022 World Cup stayed perfect with three victories as they added to a 3-0 win over Lebanon and a 1-0 win over Tajikistan.
