Social Media Reaction: Bernardo Silva is Lauded as a 'Ridiculous Footballer' After His 'Incredible' Backheel Finish
  • 3 months ago
Social media erupted with praise for Bernardo Silva after the Manchester City star gave his side the lead against Newcastle with a stunning finish, but there were questions over whether the goal should have been allowed to stand.

The Portuguese maestro produced a stunning deft touch to flick Kyle Walker's cross past Martin Dubravka and put Pep Guardiola's side in front during the first half at St James' Park. The city would then concede twice before halftime.

Silva had to hook the ball from behind him with his right foot and clipped it past his other standing leg and praise quickly flooded in for the Man City star's glamorous strike.

The backheel effort joins an already booming catalog of sensational Premier League goals this season, with Alejandro Garnacho's bicycle kick still the most obvious pick of the bunch.

Despite City players and Guardiola celebrating Silva's goal emphatically, there was fury amongst the Newcastle ranks as they fumed the goal should have been disallowed.

Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon had been sent clattering into the pitchside advertising board during a challenge moments earlier, but no foul had been given as City went on the attack.

One immediate post reacting to the goal on X - formerly Twitter - read: 'Bernardo Silva is a ridiculous footballer, my god.'

Another hilariously added: 'Went to the bathroom and just saw the Bernardo Silva goal. Lmao what the hell was that?!?! He’s incredible.'

Another simply stated: 'Unreal goal but so obviously a foul on Gordon before that,'

Gordon had his revenge when he struck at the other end to haul Newcastle ahead after Alexander Isak leveled nine minutes after Silva's goal.

However, City would have the final laugh as they scored twice late on through the returning Kevin De Bruyne and fellow substitute Oscar Bobb to claim a dramatic 3-2 victory.
