Clip Has Gone Viral 85-year-old Grandmother's Incredible Darts Checkout to Win a Family Competition

An 85-year-old grandmother has gone viral after pulling off a remarkable two-dart checkout to win a family competition over Christmas.

Stepping up to the 'oche' in the living room, she required 86 and started well by hitting treble 12 to leave herself 50 to win. With hardly a moment's hesitation, she went straight for the bullseye and nailed it, leading to wild celebrations from the rest of her family.

Some were seen putting their hands to their head in disbelief at what had just happened, while others simply laughed before the whole family burst into an impromptu rendition of 'Chase the Sun', which has become the darts anthem that fans dance to all around the world.

One fan posted the video of the checkout on X, labeling the grandmother 'Maureen van Gerwen' after she pulled off a finish that three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen would have been proud of.

They also called for the PDC to 'get her down to Ally Pally immediately', with the Darts World Championship currently in full swing.

Other fans were also impressed with what they'd witnessed from the grandmother, with one hailing the 'unbelievable scenes' in the living room after she hit the bullseye.

Another joked about her supreme confidence to go straight for the smallest target on the board when most professionals would aim elsewhere to leave themselves a double for their third and final dart.

'The audacity to go bull with 2 darts in hand as well,' they quipped.

Arguably the best response to the checkout came from one X user who simply put 'I CAN'T SPAKE! I CAN'T SPAKE!'

This was a tribute to Sky Sports commentator Wayne Mardle who famously uttered those same words when Michael Smith hit a nine-darter in last year's World Championship final, just seconds after Van Gerwen had missed a shot at double 12 to get his nine-darter.

The pressure is now on the professionals to outdo this grandmother over the coming days at Alexandra Palace.

The third round of the World Championship got underway on Wednesday afternoon, and the winner of the tournament will be crowned on January 3.
