The saga begins in 1704 when Guru Gobind Singh Ji, after establishing the Khalsa Panth, faced an invasion by the Mughal forces led by Wazir Khan, the Subedar of Sirhind. In the challenging circumstances, Guru Ji left the fortress of Shri Anandpur Sahib along with his family on December 20-21.
Separated from their family during the perilous journey, Baba Ajit Singh, Baba Jujhar Singh, Baba Zorawar Singh, and Baba Fateh Singh, the four Sahibzade, displayed extraordinary resilience. The younger ones, Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh, along with their grandmother Mata Gujri Ji, embarked on their journey alone.
Facing the ruthless Mughal forces, the Sahibzade and Mata Gujri Ji were captured. Despite unimaginable cruelty, these young souls, aged 7 and 5, remained steadfast in their faith. The captors attempted to force them to convert to Islam, but the Sahibzade fearlessly proclaimed, "Jo Bole So Nihaal, Sat Sri Akaal," affirming their allegiance to Sikhism.
The captors, including Wazir Khan, tried various tactics, but the Sahibzade's resolve remained unshaken. Even when faced with a horrific ultimatum and imprisonment within cold walls without any protection from the bitter cold, their spirit didn't waver. Eventually, the younger Sahibzade and Mata Gujri Ji were subjected to an unimaginable atrocity – being bricked alive within a wall.
On the other hand, Baba Ajit Singh, the eldest son, displayed exemplary bravery in the battlefield of Chamkaur. Initially dissuaded by his fellow Sikhs from participating in the fight, he was eventually armed by Guru Gobind Singh Ji himself. Baba Ajit Singh's valor instilled fear in the Mughal army, and he attained martyrdom, fighting until his last breath.
