A volcano has erupted on the Reykjanes peninsula in southwest Iceland after several weeks of increased seismic activity in the region. Around 4,000 people from the town had already been evacuated due to the earthquake activity. Images and videos from the site show lava bursting from a fissure in the Earth. The volcanic fissure is estimated to be around 3.5km long. Lava is flowing at an estimated rate of 100-200 cubic meters per second. The eruption site is located around 4km northeast of Grindavik.
