Mild weather has dominated the Northeast throughout most of December, but it will feel more like winter into midweek with even the chance for some snow.
Transcript
00:00 Well, finally, some December cold in the Northeast.
00:04 Not going to last all that long, though, but we're not looking at record warmth either.
00:07 All right, let me take you out to the water vapor loop.
00:09 What's going on here?
00:10 This big dip in the jet stream here comes across the Northeast.
00:13 That's where we've had some snow showers and a return to December-like cold, right?
00:19 But that dip in the jet stream, here it goes, it's gone.
00:22 By six, seven o'clock tonight, it is going to be leaving.
00:24 And you notice behind it, you see all these white lines, where are they coming from?
00:28 They're coming from the West.
00:30 That's why it's going to warm right back up.
00:31 Now, not record warmth, but we're back to above normal levels in a lot of locations
00:36 as we go through tomorrow as that upper low leaves.
00:38 Now, having said that, watch for the snow showers.
00:40 I think they're going to be diminishing as we go through the afternoon.
00:43 A lot of clouds today and a lot of brisk winds on the backside of this system here.
00:48 We're not looking at the wind gusts anywhere near we saw yesterday with our coastal storm.
00:53 But you know, we're going to have wind gusts 25, 30 miles per hour across parts of the
00:57 Northeast today.
00:58 It's going to feel very cold compared to where we've been.
01:01 AccuWeather says, well, we're back into the 40s in New York City, Pittsburgh 34, Buffalo
01:05 32.
01:06 A lot of these high temperatures are near the historical average.
01:09 I think Pittsburgh toward Buffalo, you're going to have AccuWeather real field temperatures
01:12 in the 20s along the I-95 corridor.
01:14 It's going to feel like the 30s tonight.
01:16 Now, today, clear skies.
01:18 I think we'll start to clear things out later on tonight.
01:20 It's a cold night, 23 degrees in Pittsburgh, 30 in New York City, Washington, DC, 29 degrees
01:26 probably in the lower 20s outside the Beltway here.
01:29 High pressure is in tomorrow.
01:30 It's a cold start, a milder afternoon.
01:34 There is going to be another cold front dropping south here as we get into Thursday.
01:38 And that will start bringing temperatures down a little bit as we head toward the weekend.
01:42 It's not Arctic chill.
01:43 In fact, temperatures will still be no worse than back where they should be this time of
01:47 the year.
01:48 There's the colder there though around Boston in the middle 30s Friday, New York City around
01:52 40 degrees.
01:53 In Pittsburgh, you're a little colder Wednesday, Thursday, although again tomorrow a little
01:57 warmer than what we've had.
01:59 You'll start to warm up a little bit by Friday.
