00:00 In yesterday's news video, I spoke about WWE and Warner Bros' discovery and a potential
00:17 deal between the two to bring Monday Night Raw to the Network, as well as the ramifications
00:22 of that potential deal not just for WWE, but for AEW as well, whose shows currently air
00:27 on WBD's channels.
00:29 So we have a ton more detail on what's been going on behind the scenes.
00:33 As Dave Meltzer originally reported, WWE and WBD have begun meeting again after what was
00:38 thought to be a dead deal, primarily because of CM Punk.
00:42 PWInsider then reported that on Monday, TKO's Mark Shapiro, Triple H and Nick Khan all met
00:48 with WBD executive Bruce Campbell for several hours during the day, with Triple H then attending
00:53 Raw later that day.
00:55 House of Wrestling then reported that "the vibe we've been given is that AEW is in
00:59 danger of not being renewed by WBD for TNT or TBS."
01:04 Crucially, this isn't necessarily that AEW could be done with WBD entirely, just that
01:09 Raw would potentially take over the TNT or TBS slots, or AEW would move to Discovery.
01:14 An interesting note in the House of Wrestling report however, is that according to a WWE
01:19 source, there's a chance that this meeting never happened, with the internal schedules
01:22 of Triple H, Nick Khan and Mark Shapiro not lining up or putting them together on Monday
01:27 for the meeting.
01:28 However, WWE execs were reported to potentially be kayfabing their schedules.
01:32 If these talks have indeed happened, they are trying to be very secretive about it.
01:36 Sean Ross Sapp also posted about this secrecy on X, saying that all he'd heard is speculation
01:41 and chatter, nothing confirmed yet, but that those who would normally be in the know on
01:46 both sides were being kept in the dark.
01:49 But even if WWE are having these meetings and the winds might be blowing in favour of
01:53 the bigger company right now, that doesn't mean it's all over for AEW.
01:57 Tony Khan confirmed on the final Battle Media call that he spoke with WBD on Tuesday, which
02:03 would be the day after the meeting with WWE, so there's every chance they're still
02:07 in the running.
02:08 And as has been mentioned before, WBD has higher priorities right now, like the NBA,
02:13 and if the NBA rights end up costing them a fair chunk of change, how likely are they
02:17 to fork out another fair chunk of change for WWE programming when they could get similar
02:22 but slightly lower results from AEW for a fraction of the cost?
02:26 Let's look at the ratings for this week's AEW Dynamite.
02:29 It drew an average of 845,000 viewers, and importantly a .30 rating in the 18-49 demographic,
02:37 while this week's Raw drew an average of 1.46 million viewers and achieved a .46 rating
02:42 in the same demo.
02:43 So yes, AEW Dynamite does draw less than Raw, but it also costs significantly less,
02:49 with WWE reportedly looking for around $400 million per year according to Dave Meltzer
02:54 on Wrestling Observer Radio.
02:55 AEW would be looking for more money than before, for sure.
02:59 They need an increase on their rights to really help them become profitable, but even so it
03:03 will almost certainly be for less money than what WWE are asking for.
03:07 So if WBD stick with AEW, they'd be getting more bang for their buck, pardon the pun,
03:12 with a potentially bigger return on investment.
03:14 So what's next?
03:16 We sit and wait and wait to see where the chips fall where they may.
03:20 I'm genuinely really intrigued by how all of this is playing out.
03:31 Right it's Survival Series next week.
03:32 I know I can win, but only if Tempest doesn't ask me anything about the last couple of years
03:36 of the AEW vs WWE rivalry.
03:39 I don't know anything about that, and I especially don't know anything about Triple H's new WWE
03:44 role, CM Punk joining and leaving AEW, or AEW collision.
03:56 How am I supposed to prepare for tables, lists and chairs when there's so much else going
04:00 on in the world?
04:01 WWE's legal battles, mergers, CM Punk joining AEW, Tony Khan's struggles to control his
04:08 company and so much more.
04:09 If only someone had written all this information down somewhere so I don't have to think about
04:13 it all the time.
04:21 WrestleTalk's brand new book, WWE vs AEW The Fallout, offers a front row seat to the
04:41 ceaseless drama, the pulse-pounding excitement and the monumental shifts that have unfolded
04:46 in the war between WWE and AEW over the past 18 months.
04:50 Digging up where WWE vs AEW The New War left off, this anthology of articles from the pages
04:56 of the WrestleTalk Magazine gives you fresh insights and perspective into the battle between
05:01 the two companies that you simply cannot get anywhere else.
05:05 It's the ultimate collector's item for those who want to remember this unprecedented
05:09 time in wrestling history.
05:12 Use the link in the description below to get your copy now.
05:25 While AEW's future on WBD looks to be uncertain, the one angle the company has managed to go
05:30 on a fan intrigue with is the ongoing AEW Devil Saga.
05:34 For months now we've seen MJF's Devil Mask being spotted by unidentifiable goons,
05:38 with each week seeing a new victim.
05:40 With each week that passes it seems our list of suspects grows smaller, but there has been
05:44 one currently absent name that many have theorised could be the one behind the entire thing,
05:48 or at least involved in some fashion.
05:50 The Jungle Man himself, Jack Perry, earned the promotion from boy to man when he did
05:55 the impossible and brought CM Punk back to WWE, allegedly.
05:58 Now Perry has been absent from our screens since All In London, and they previously alluded
06:02 to backstage altercation with Punk, however reports have suggested that his suspension
06:06 has actually been up for a while now.
06:08 While his absence from all the "Devil" shenanigans was enough to draw suspicion on
06:12 his involvement, a major tease from this week's Dynamite had many even more convinced that
06:16 Perry is indeed the culprit.
06:17 That's of course the use of "real glass" in the backstage attack on Hangman Page, which
06:22 happens to be Perry's brand of choice.
06:25 The attack, which saw Page put through a car windshield, echoed the spot from Perry's
06:29 match with Hook at All In, and given the infamy around the whole "real glass" fiasco,
06:33 surely that was a big ol' nudge that Jungle Jack was indeed back on TV this whole time.
06:38 Well, not quite.
06:39 While creative plans could always change, Fightful Select has revealed that a high-level
06:44 AEW source was of the belief that Perry was not involved in the angle whatsoever despite
06:49 the apparent tease.
06:50 It's been reported in the past that the identities of the people under the masks at
06:53 present are in fact those who will eventually be revealed to be involved, a crucial detail
06:58 that has seemingly ruled out a fair few names such as the injured Adam Cole and prospective
07:02 news signings like Mustafa Ali, Dolph Ziggler, etc. as they are only just about to be set
07:07 to be allowed to compete elsewhere following their releases from WWE in September.
07:12 While again this could change and AEW could plant any one of these names into the roles
07:16 nearer the time, it does beg the question of who the hell is actually left to take the
07:20 role.
07:21 Is it actually MJF after all?
07:23 Quite possibly at this rate.
07:24 Let us know your best and/or silliest suggestions down in the comments below, where I'll be
07:28 telling you it's Kyle O'Reilly.
07:29 While we're on the topic of those released WWE stars, as mentioned, it's almost time
07:33 for the names who were let go from the company to be allowed back into the wild and competing
07:37 wherever they please once again.
07:39 While many have yet to announce their moves just yet, we have seen a few already dip their
07:43 toes back in the water, with Dolph Ziggler being announced for a match at Puerto Rican
07:47 Promotion World Wrestling Council's Euphoria event on January 20th.
07:51 Ziggler has also been advertised for another appearance for MCW Pro Wrestling on February
07:55 4th, alongside fellow WWE release Matt Riddle.
07:58 Now we can add another name to that list as former Hit Row member Top Dollar's first
08:02 post-WWE appearance has now been announced.
08:05 Appearing once again under his real name of AJ Francis, he's been announced for GCW's
08:09 Look At Me event on January 26th.
08:11 Francis had previously competed in GCW prior to returning to WWE last year, and interestingly
08:16 won't be the only name from the latest round of talent cuts to feature on the same show.
08:21 Former Maxwell male model Man Soar is also set for Look At Me, as well as AEW star Andrade
08:25 El Idolo.
08:26 There's sure to be many more updates to come on the next moves for all the ex-WWE
08:30 talent, so make sure to stay locked to WrestleTalk.com for updates.
08:33 Sticking with WWE, and tonight's SmackDown will of course see the return of your Tribal
08:37 Chief Roman Reigns to TV for the first time since Crown Jewel on November 4th, which was
08:42 only his fourth televised WWE match since WrestleMania.
08:46 While Reigns looks set to skip Elimination Chamber in February, he is set to appear at
08:50 the Royal Rumble, where it's looking like he will perhaps defend his UwU title against
08:54 the recently returning Randy Orton, before finally losing to Cody Rhodes in the main
08:57 event of WrestleMania, which will definitely be happening this year, please.
09:02 While this proves absolutely nothing, Reigns could be set to take more time off following
09:06 Mania 40 if the poster for the first PLE post-Mania, Backlash 2024 from Lyon, France, is anything
09:12 to go by.
09:13 The poster currently features Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch, Randy Orton, Bianca
09:16 Belair and Rhea Ripley, with no Reigns in sight.
09:19 While this doesn't necessarily confirm that Reigns won't appear, it does at least suggest
09:23 that to be the case.
09:24 And even so, Reigns skipped plenty of PLEs this year as champions, so it also doesn't
09:28 confirm that he will be losing at WrestleMania, but...maybe he will.
09:32 I'm certainly going to take it that way anyway, because I need all the reassurance
09:35 I can get to be quite honest.
09:37 Speaking of soon-to-be UwU Champion Cody Rhodes, despite the loss to Roman, it's safe to
09:41 say that aside from the loss to Roman, he's had a pretty solid year in 2023.
09:45 However there was perhaps one unfulfilled hope from 2023, and it pertained to his feud
09:49 with Brock Lesnar.
09:50 Around the build to Summerslam, it was rumoured that WWE could be bringing back the Texas
09:54 Bull Rope stipulation for Cody and Brock's final encounter, yet this didn't come to
09:58 pass in the end, despite seeming perfect for it, and it was just a regular match.
10:01 So naturally, all hope of ever seeing that match in WWE kind of went out the window.
10:07 Until now.
10:08 Because bafflingly, out of nowhere, it's been announced that Cody will in fact tick
10:11 the Bull Rope match off his 2023 bucket list as he competes in the rare stipulation against
10:16 current rival Shinsuke Nakamura.
10:18 But the kicker is, unless you're attending the December 26th WWE Holiday Tour show from
10:22 New York's Madison Square Garden, you're not going to see it.
10:24 Why does WWE do this kind of thing?
10:26 I don't know.
10:27 But good for Cody, and good for anyone going to MSG on Boxing Day.
10:30 Let us know if Cody bleeds or not.
10:32 And hey, it's coming up to the end of the year, and we made some wild predictions for
10:35 2023 at the tail end of last year when Oli and Luke launched the 3 count series.
10:40 So this year, we've gone back to look at their 2023 predictions to see what they got
10:43 right and what they got wrong.
10:44 It's a really fun episode, go check it out.
