Special Counsel Gathers Damning Evidence from Trump's Cellphone Records. What Does His Phone Usage Show?
Investigators accessed cellphone records from White House phones used by former President Donald Trump and another unnamed individual during and after the 2020 election. Special counsel Jack Smith plans to use information from these phone records as evidence in the upcoming 2023 trial related to Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. A technical witness examined the phone records and extracted data showing when Trump's phone was unlocked, and the Twitter app was open on January 6th, 2021. The witness also analyzed images and websites visited on Trump's and the other individual's phones. Trump's lawyers have argued he has immunity from prosecution as a former president, but a lower court rejected that claim. Smith asked the Supreme Court to resolve the immunity issue before the 2023 trial.
