Transcript
00:00 Hey guys, this is a Billboard exclusive.
00:07 Sneak Peek.
00:18 Welcome Billboard, this is Sars, Anya and my set for Happiness featuring Ashake and
00:23 Gunna.
00:24 Hey what's up, it's Edgar Estevez, I'm the director today for Sars, Ashake and Gunna,
00:33 Happiness and today Billboard we're taking you behind the scenes of the music video.
00:38 The director today is Edgar Estevez, the GOAT.
00:44 So right here we got Zev, creative director.
00:47 This music video concept is really just about when life waters your seed and blossoms you
00:51 into the flower that you are, bringing your own happiness to fruition and through costume,
00:55 wardrobe, through good energy we can achieve that.
00:58 Hi Billboard, thank you so much for coming.
01:00 I'm the publicist on set.
01:02 The video is about everyone coming together, all genders, bright colors and really just
01:08 like illustrating what happiness is.
01:11 So guys, this is Zayd, I shot a video with him about a few months ago and now we're back.
01:18 Hi Billboard, what's up, it's Alexa from Empire.
01:21 Today we are on site for Ashake, Sars and Gunna music video, Happiness, dropping December
01:26 8th.
01:27 The video shoot is in the middle of beautiful Calabasas, California.
01:31 The song just reminds me of nature, earth, smiles, sun flares and that's why we came
01:36 to the hills in Calabasas, California to shoot everything.
01:39 Where we have these beautiful brown and green hills that in post we're going to turn all
01:43 green.
01:44 Okay, so you have Gunna and Ashake on this song.
01:51 How did you get them on here, especially Gunna, because that's a huge one to get.
01:54 I think the song is so crossover, it's like the perfect intersection between Afro beats,
01:59 hip hop, funk, pop and we just thought Gunna is the right feature for it.
02:05 We sent him the record and he loved it instantly.
02:12 Right now we're setting up a shot where we basically have everyone frolicking, everyone's
02:16 free dancing, freestyling, having a good time, smiling.
02:19 You know they're basking in the sun, they have these crazy beautiful colorful outfits
02:23 and that's the next thing.
02:24 So basically we're just going to have you guys just like, you're going to be looking
02:27 profile at him and you're going to just hug him, you got me?
02:34 Last looks on stars please, last looks on stars.
02:38 We've got some five stylists, they're getting set up right back there.
02:44 There's probably like a hundred people here today, it's kind of crazy.
02:49 We've got an amazing crew.
02:52 Hey what's going on guys, I'm Jamar Hawkins with the First State Beat and we're out here
03:20 in Calabasas out in the hills.
03:25 Lots of fun energy, great vibes and we're getting it in so stay tuned, see what's going
03:29 on.
03:30 Hey let's have fun.
03:31 Hey Billboard, it's Luz here, I'm styling today on Happiness for Sars and Ashaké.
03:42 My favorite look today on Ashaké is definitely this merry runway look, brown, chocolate with
03:47 this contrast, Rikaw and Shaké.
04:05 Also on Sars, this really bright fur, Mongolian fur, yellow coat that is literally amazing
04:11 that I'm so obsessed with.
04:18 Hello everyone, my name is Lindiwe Rose, I am from South Africa and I am the choreographer.
04:32 In South Africa we have something called Ubuntu, which means I am who I am because of who we
04:40 are.
04:41 What's up Billboard, my name is Juju McClain, director of A&R United Masters.
05:01 We're here on the set of Happiness.
05:02 Eight months ago Sars played me this record and said this is one of those ones that we
05:06 can take to the next level and I said let's go get Gunna.
05:10 One of my good friends I play golf with, shout out to Lef, he played the record for Gunna
05:15 in the studio, Gunna got excited, he FaceTimed me and said man we got one.
05:19 And now here fast forward seven, eight months, we're on set.
05:26 So right now we're doing a portrait scene of Sars as everyone runs behind him in slow
05:30 motion.
05:31 We're basically, you know, we're staying united.
05:34 See we're doing that.
05:35 Let's go.
05:36 Action!
05:37 Yes.
05:38 So basically the reason why we're doing it this way in nature is because first Happiness
05:49 is like, I feel like all my happy moments in my life are exactly when I'm out there
05:53 living life, traveling the world, seeing different places.
05:56 Because when I went to Africa I saw how joyful and happy they were with just basically the
05:59 resources they had around them.
06:01 So I wanted to do a video where it's not really about, you know, fancy props or art direction,
06:04 it's really just about nature and just being happy within themselves and the self-expression
06:08 through the clothes and the fashion.
06:10 And I think with a shotgun Gunna, you got the drip gods on it so how can you go wrong?
06:14 It definitely translates.
06:15 Yeah, the ladybug is just, every time I see a ladybug I make a wish and you know, I think
06:20 it represents joy in some type of way.
06:24 So I ordered 1500 ladybugs and they're here.
06:26 So we're putting it on people's faces.
06:28 Yeah, excited for this.
06:31 Yeah.
06:32 Hi, my name is Kiyan.
06:35 I'm styling background dancers for the music video "Happiness" today.
06:39 And we want people just to feel authentic in the clothes we put them in.
06:45 And we want them to be actually happy.
06:48 Happiness is a state of mind and a state of being.
06:50 Happiness to me is like love within your community, with your family, with your friends.
06:54 Yeah, it's happiness.
06:55 It involves money because you know, you can have...
06:58 Happiness to me is coming home and getting in my bed after a long day at work or seeing
07:03 my mom on Christmas morning.
07:05 Happiness to me is, you know, working with people with great energy and being around
07:12 things you love and doing what you love.
07:14 So if you're in that vibe, you don't really work, you just live.
07:17 So do that.
07:18 Amen.
07:19 Happiness means bringing people together.
07:21 You know, being a bridge to share common goals and things that bring happiness and joy to
07:27 each other.
07:28 Happiness to me is waking up every day and just being excited for what's coming next.
07:34 Okay, guys, we're done.
07:37 We're wrapped.
07:38 I hope you guys love it.
07:40 Shout out to Billboard for being here, capturing behind the scenes.
07:43 Exclusive!
07:44 Asake, Gunna, happiness.
07:46 That's a wrap!
07:47 Thank you!
07:48 Thank you.
07:50 (whooshing)
