In response to ongoing turbulence at the Vietnamese low-cost carrier, Bamboo Airways announced intentions on Friday to suspend service on ten foreign routes.

On October 18, the airline began by ceasing operations between Hanoi and London. Additional routes impacted are those connecting Hanoi to Incheon, South Korea; Ho Chi Minh City and Frankfurt, Germany; and Narita Airport, which is close to Tokyo.

Tickets that have already been sold are eligible for full refunds or flight modifications.

The third-biggest airline in Vietnam, Bamboo Airways, is restructuring at the time of the announcement. In 2022, Trinh Van Quyet, the founder, was placed under custody on charges of stock market manipulation and information concealment.

The pandemic significantly decreased demand for travel. Roughly eight times as much was lost by Bamboo Airways in 2022—roughly 17 trillion dong, or $700 million at current exchange rates. According to news reports, the airline has lost a large number of foreign pilots due to nonpayment of salary.

In June of this year, Hideki Oshima, a former executive at Japan Airlines, became the chairman of the board of Bamboo Airways, but he resigned in less than three weeks. September saw Oshima's resignation from the board.
