When a two hundred foot tall naked body washes ashore outside a small fishing village, crowds gather to witness the spectacle. A local scientist documents the leviathan's surrender to nature. The ending of the Love, Death & Robots story “The Drowned Giant" explores how the narrator's life is forever changed by his experiences. A giant man washes up on a beach and the story follows first the initial fascination of the local populace then the body's decay and it's degradation. The Drowned Giant appears in Ballard’s mid 60s short story collection The Terminal Beach. It is a tale told in a clean, rather flattened voice about the corpse of a giant who washes up on the beach near a small city, and what is done to the giant body. The careful, lapidary style intensifies the anxiety that saturates the tale, and the precision and attention to the concrete and the tangible somehow make the story more, and not less, oneiric.
