52-hertz whales are individual whales of an unknown species that call at a frequency of 52 Hz, different from the frequency of whale species in general. This pitch is a higher frequency than other whale species with similar migration patterns[1]—blue whales (10–39 Hz)[2] or fin whales (20 Hz).[1] This whale has been detected moving regularly in several locations since the late 1980s and appears to be the only individual whale to emit sounds at this frequency. This whale has been described as "the loneliest whale in the world
