Google is now investigating the potential of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in the Asia-Pacific area.

According to an exclusive interview with Nikkei Asia, Scott Beaumont, the Asia Pacific president of Google, has announced the company's intention to expand its presence in the Asia-Pacific area. The focus of this expansion will be on the exploration of new markets, particularly in the realm of generative artificial intelligence technology.
"There's this kind of pivoting understanding that Asia is where the opportunity is," said Beaumont, explaining where Asia stands in Google's worldwide strategy. He further emphasised that Asia is a region from where we may get valuable knowledge.

Google has recently introduced a beta iteration of its Search Generative Experience (SGE), a novel application that integrates generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology into its internet search service.

Beaumont placed significant emphasis on the fact that Google introduced SGE in Japan and India subsequent to its initial launch in the U.S. market. According to his statement, the reason for this phenomenon is attributed to the significantly elevated level of interest exhibited by these two nations, in contrast to other international marketplaces. According to Beaumont, Korea would rank prominently in the context of artificial intelligence.

In September, Google commemorated its 25th anniversary. The organisation, originally established as a provider of search engine services, currently offers six distinct services that are utilised by a global user base exceeding 2 billion individuals. Additionally, the number of devices operating on its Android operating system has surpassed 3 billion.

According to Beaumont, Google found it more convenient to initially offer its services in the United States and then extend into Europe during the early stages of its operations. Nevertheless, he emphasised that over the past five years, and especially with regards to artificial intelligence (AI), the focus has shifted from Europe to determining the specific location in Asia to expand across various product lines. The aforementioned transition holds significant importance.

Alphabet, the parent company of Google, disclosed a total revenue of $47 billion for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region during the fiscal year 2022, which concluded in December. The Asia-Pacific (APAC) region contributed about 16% of the total worldwide revenue. During the corresponding time frame, the combined sales in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa region amounted to $82 billion, constituting approximately 29% of the total global revenue.
