The Ancient City of YAZD, Iran

In the 4th episode, I’m exploring the ancient city of Yazd یزد, populated since the period of the Achaemenid Dynasty (550 BC–330 BC) and located right in the middle of Iran.

I’ll visit the Jameh Mosque of Yazd مسجد جامع یزد as well as learning a little about Zoroastrian religion at the Zoroastrians Towers of Silence and the Zoroastrian Fire Temple of Yazd. Zoroastrianism is one of the world's oldest organized faiths and the primary religion of Iran before Islam.

I’ll try Dizi for lunch, the smashed up Iranian stew, followed by some of the best baklava that can be found in Iran at Haj Khalifeh حاج خلیفه علی رهبر وشرکاء.

After lunch it’s off to the beautiful Dowlat Abad Gardens باغ دولت‌آباد, the Fazeli Carpet store with it’s great views of over the old city and the grand Amir Chakamagh امیر چخماق square for sunset.

We’ll go and see a traditional Iranian sport called Zurkhaneh and finish with a classic chicken Joojeh kebab.

PATHS LESS TRAVELED

In the late summer of 2022 I embarked on an epic road trip around Iran, during a time of unrest as protests escalated across the country.

Covering around 6200km over 24 days, I was able to see this incredible country in a way that many are not fortunate enough to see, and to record my experiences in a way that has not been done before.

Safety concerns meant that I had to limit my filming on occasion, and stay well away from any signs of the troubles going on.

However, what I did see was an incredible insight. Some of the most wonderful and welcoming people, incredible history and culture, and mind blowing food.

Paths Less Traveled - Iran is my story of my experiences, put in an in-depth series of Iran travel vlogs.
