Surf's Up (Beach Boys Cover)

#83 on my senior year bucket list, finish Surf's Up. I recorded this on & off 4 times last year. This intimidated me, & challenged me to strive to perfect it, following Brian´s footsteps in what I heard. I even created an overtone from being so in tune with myself. I´m a music perfectionist. I knew I could give my all & rely on my ears. There was no harmony breakdown, I did it myself.
I learned how to implement different instruments also adding my touch. There’s a total of 42 overdubs & 14 instruments in this. 6 vocal overdubs for 7 parts. Why? Brian did this for Pet Sounds, so I thought it´d be accurate he'd do it for SMiLE. Some instruments were put in with garageband, & I worked hard to make notes right. I´d never worked with a majority of these prior, I learned a lot through the process.
Since November 2019, I´ve been in a Surf´s Up fever dream. At first, the idea started simple: me playing piano & singing the lead. When quarantine hit, I lived in this song & wanted to learn every aspect. I did it twice with a mic I got last spring, had too much static, so I stopped till last October. I got inspired by my friend´s cover, so I redid everything, adding more in, adding complexity. Static killed #3. I finished #4 during Thanksgiving week. I wanted to post then, but it needed a video. I needed a good idea, & I didn't get one till last week.
I somewhat understand what Brian went through making SMiLE. Looking back, I felt like I stepped into his mindset, working hard to outdo myself to make it better, nitpicking all I didn't like. I thought Brian´d hear every mistake, & I set myself up for failure, & took long breaks off this. I refused to give up, it enamored me too much to stop. I love it due to its brilliance, written by Brian WIlson & Van Dyke Parks; one of the best songwriting partnerships.
Thank you, Brian, for being an incredible musician, & blessing the world with your talent. You opened my eyes to all music can do. I dream of writing great songs like this one.
It´d mean everything to me if you can share it, I really want to get this to Brian somehow! This is on Soundcloud & my igtv series kait's music corner!
