Elon Musk lashed out at Media Matters and unspecified large advertisers after several major brands paused ad spending on X, formerly Twitter. Musk threatened a "thermonuclear lawsuit" against Media Matters and its donors after the media watchdog group published a report showing mainstream brand ads running alongside user posts espousing pro-Nazi views on X. This came after Musk personally posted tweets that promoted antisemitic and racist hate. In response, major advertisers including Apple, Comcast, Disney, IBM, Lions Gate, Paramount and Warner Bros Discovery paused their Twitter ad spending. A Twitter spokesperson said Media Matters misrepresented the user experience by following sensitive accounts to curate harmful posts and mislead advertisers.
