00:00 My name's Clive Andrews, I'm the chair of a community group called Shoreham Bicycle.
00:04 We're here to try and help our councils move our town and our whole district
00:08 towards being an easier, safer place to have more transport choices.
00:12 We're here by the A259, that's a really significant road that connects Shoreham towards Hove, towards
00:19 Brighton. It's a significant route and if you're making a journey along the coast by bike, this is
00:25 the most obvious way to do it. Yet it's not a safe road, it's not a pleasant road. Our councils
00:30 recognise this and they have had plans in place for a long, long time now. They've even drawn up
00:35 designs on how to create cycle infrastructure along this road. The frustration is the fact
00:40 that they keep on putting it off and getting bogged down in consultation after strategy,
00:44 after study and there's never any action. The situation is now getting urgent because along
00:50 these new flats that are going to be built along the riverfront here with thousands of new people,
00:55 this road really is going to be their only route east and west towards the towns where they're
01:00 going to do their shopping, make their journeys. And the fear is that with a car being the only
01:04 safe option really for making those journeys, our town is just going to become even more
01:09 bogged down with congestion. Nobody wants that. So for reasons of congestion and safety, we're
01:14 here to really say enough's enough, it's time for our councils to pull their fingers out and do what
01:19 needs to happen to make this road a safe, easy choice for people to make by bike.
