Texas Escapes TCU, 29-26

The Texas Longhorns downed TCU 29-26 in a tight battle that went all the way up to the final whistle. This game started as a blowout, but after a strong fourth-quarter push for TCU, the game was within three, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win.

TCU struggled offensively, especially in the red zone, the entire first half. Due to the struggles in the red zone, TCU had to settle for two field goals and one turnover on downs, which allowed Texas to get up by a lot and put TCU in a hole. TCU’s defense did a great job tonight; they made huge plays when needed, but the offense was nowhere to be found in the first half and kept going three and out, leaving the defense on the field with little to no rest.

When the fourth quarter came around, it looked like a different team. TCU drove down the field and scored, and then TCU’s defense made a huge stop to give TCU the ball again, which allowed them to drive down again and score and make this game a three-point game. On the final drive of the game, the defense could not get the third down stop, which allowed Texas to run the clock out.

Texas Quarterback Quinn Ewers was back in the lineup this week after missing a game due to injury. Ewers played very consistently, going 22 for 33 for 317 yards and 1 touchdown.

Texas Head Coach Steve Sarkisian said post-game that the Texans need to be able to find a way to keep the lead and blow teams out. He said that it is the killer instinct that they are missing, and it is something they are going to have to fix if they want to make it into post-season play.

TCU will be back at home next Saturday when they take on Baylor, with bowl eligibility on the line.
