Protests as asylum seekers return to Bibby Stockholm

Protesters gathered at Portland Port in Dorset on Thursday morning as asylum seekers were brought back on board the Bibby Stockholm barge. The floating accommodation was evacuated in August after Legionella bacteria were discovered in the onboard water supply. The Home Office says that all necessary tests for bacteria, as well as improved fire safety protocols, have now been completed. However, protesters are concerned for the safety and wellbeing of the returning refugees. Among the demonstrators was Portland’s mayor, Carralyn Parkes, who recently lost a high court battle against Home Secretary Suella Braverman over the lawfulness of housing asylum seekers on the Bibby Stockholm.
