Drones attacked a US military base, in Iraq

US troops in Iraq thwarted an attack on their forces on Wednesday morning by intercepting two drones heading towards a base, two US officials told Reuters. The sources, speaking anonymously, did not specify who may have been behind the attempted attack, but stressed that it happened in the context of growing tensions over the war between Israel and Hamas. Drones attempted to attack the al-Assad air base in Iraq, where American troops are stationed.The incident occurred shortly after an airstrike on a hospital in Gaza that killed hundreds of Palestinians. In this regard, US President Joe Biden traveled to Israel to express support for the war against Hamas. The Israeli authorities blamed the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group (a terrorist group banned in Russia - editor's note) for the hospital explosion, which denies any involvement. Palestinian officials said it was an Israeli airstrike that hit the hospital.In Iraq, the escalation of the conflict in Gaza has already caused increased tension. Iraq's leading Shiite cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, last week condemned Israel's actions and called on the world to confront the "horrific brutality" in Gaza.
