Italdesign Updates the Classic 1970s Audi Concept That Inspired the VW Scirocco.

Digital-only anniversary show car blends past design work with advanced technology, paying homage to the original Asso di Picche concept

Italdesign has breathed new life into one of the iconic designs of the 1970s with a completely new digital concept called "Asso di Picche In Movimento", which means "Ace of Spades in Motion" in Italian. This modern interpretation is a direct successor to the 1973 Asso di Picche concept. Similar to its predecessor, This latest creation from Italdesign features bold design elements and a unified exterior.

Italdesign's original 1973 Asso di Picche and its inspiration, the VW Scirocco
An interesting fact about the original concept is that although it was labeled Audi, it never turned into a production model for the four-ring brand. Instead, he had a notable impact on the development of another VW Group vehicle: Volkswagen's first-generation Scirocco. Moreover, design elements from the Asso di Picche concept found their way into the creation of the first versions of the Lotus Esprit and Lancia Delta, both designed by Italdesign.

However, since this new concept was designed as an Italdesign project, it is not required to include a specific brand logo. As a result, this fully digital creation blends the hard lines of the original car with a few very subtle gentle curves that Italdesign says will suit the "next-generation" EV platform. Although Italdesign hasn't gone into specific details, given that it is a subsidiary of Lamborghini, which has been owned by VW since 2010, it would be logical to assume that if this happens it will be based on the German group's Premium Platform Electric (PPE). ) or Scalable Systems Platform (SSP).

Asso di Picche In Movimento has a storage area on the front, and the place where the air inlet was in the original concept is now used as a charging port. The doors use a double-hinged mechanism to allow easier entry and exit, which is vital as this is a true 2+2 Coupe. All four passengers have a structurally transparent panel above them that blocks 100% of UVA light.

The cabin is intended to be a tranquil place for all passengers, and so Italdesign says a few key features are visible at all times. A rounded dash rotates to open a slim screen located just in front of the driver. The steering wheel is designed in a square shape to increase visibility, and the door handles revert to the leather belts that served as secure storage in the original concept.
