Solar Eclipse Inspired Limited Edition, New Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ekleipsis

The luxury sedan features an animated Starlight Headlining that displays a total solar eclipse every time the driver starts the engine.

Rolls-Royce has introduced a special version of the Black Badge Ghost called Ekleipsis, which features unique exterior and interior features inspired by the celestial phenomenon of a solar eclipse. It was previously discussed that the model would be produced limited to 25 units.

The full name of the sedan is Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection. The main color of the exterior is dark Lyrical Copper, which has a special "powdered copper pigment" treatment that creates an iridescent effect under light. Mandarin accents on the bumper inserts, hand-painted body line, center caps and brake calipers resemble the color of the sun hiding behind the moon in the phases leading up to a total eclipse.

The interior is a bit more dramatic (for a Rolls Royce) than the exterior, while the high-contrast colors generally remind us of Mansory's previous builds. The "Panoramic Sunset" theme combines Mandarin and black for the perforated leather upholstery of the two-tone seats. The front of the dashboard displays the phases of a total solar eclipse with 1,846 laser-etched stars that took more than 100 hours to complete. In addition, the analog watch is decorated with a brilliant 0.5-carat diamond integrated into the special bezel. Rolls-Royce designers added Mandarin stripes to illuminated side sills and door-mounted umbrellas.

The highlight of the interior, though, is the animated version of the Starlight Headlining, which features a black field in the center surrounded by 940 stars, with a further 192 stars scattered further out. This animation repeats the eclipse effect every time the doors close and the driver starts the engine. The spectacle is visible for 7 minutes and 31 seconds, the longest possible duration for a total solar eclipse. After this period, the headliner reverts to the usual starry sky effect, as on all other Rolls-Royce models.

The special edition is based on the performance-oriented Black Badge Ghost, equipped with a more powerful version of the twin-turbocharged 6.75-liter V12 engine producing 592 hp (441 kW / 600 PS). Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the Ghost's signature planar suspension provides the signature "magic carpet" ride.

Private Ghost's launch on October 12th is very close to the solar eclipse that will be visible in parts of the Western Hemisphere on October 14th. The company did not disclose the price of the Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Special Collection, but did say: 25 examples have already been allocated to “customers worldwide.”
