Her Majesty holidays in the Scottish retreat in summer, and invites members of the Royal Family to visit. Upon arrival, a military unit is normally inspected by the monarch at the gates of Balmoral Castle. However, this year sources say the military inspection will take place behind the castle gates within the Balmoral grounds away from public gaze. Since 2021, Her Majesty has faced mobility issues and now regularly uses a walking stick. The monarch has also pared back the length of her official engagements at times in 2022, with visits being held virtually or at Windsor.
