Russian skydiver plunges to his death at contest dedicated to Putin

A Russian skydiver, 45-year-old Dmitry Belyayev, died while participating in a parachuting competition dedicated to Vladimir Putin's 71st birthday. The incident happened in Gudermes, Chechnya.

According to the Parachuting Federation of Russia, Belyayev made a mistake during his landing approach and collided with the water surface at an increased vertical speed.

Medical workers tried to save Belyayev's life, but he died at the scene.

Belyayev was a member of the Russian national team and had completed more than 3,700 jumps over the course of his career.
