Canadian Wildfire Smoke Reaches Florida, Causing Unhealthy Air Quality
  • 7 months ago
Smoke from massive wildfires in western Canada has traveled thousands of miles and affected air quality across Florida, giving the Sunshine State a blanket of haze. Satellite imagery shows the smoke originated in British Columbia and Alberta before being picked up by winds and dragged southward through eastern Canada and the Atlantic Ocean. Air quality levels reached "unhealthy" in some parts of Florida and visibility was reduced with a mild smoky scent. This historic wildfire season in Canada has seen over 69,000 square miles burned, around 9 times a typical year and over 2.5 times the previous record amount. Nearly 800 fires were still burning as of a few days ago.
