Indonesia Inaugurates First High-Speed Railway, Connecting Jakarta and Bandung
  • 7 months ago
Indonesia has inaugurated its first high-speed railway, connecting the capital Jakarta to Bandung. Called the "Whoosh," it was built with funding from China's Belt and Road Initiative. President Joko Widodo launched the $7.3 billion project to help ease severe traffic jams in Indonesia. Bandung is considered Indonesia's answer to Silicon Valley. Officials say the high-speed rail will improve economic productivity by making business travel faster. Some critics are unsure if the project will be profitable due to its high costs. Ticket prices are estimated between $16-22, which is more expensive than regular buses.
