Unlawful border crossings along the U.S.-Mexico border reached over 210,000 in September 2022, the highest level recorded in 2023. FY2023 saw over 2 million apprehensions of migrants attempting to cross the southern border unlawfully, only the second time annual apprehensions have surpassed 2 million. The Border Patrol apprehended over 2,000 Venezuelan migrants per day in mid-September, a significant increase from an average of 713 per day in August. The rise has undermined the Biden administration's strategy to curb illegal immigration.
