Arsenal star Bukayo Saka goes off injured as Mikel Arteta’s Champions League gamble backfires.
Arsenal have been handed a major blow ahead of Sunday's clash against Manchester City with Bukayo Saka going off injured at Lens.
Mikel Arteta's decision to start the winger in France has ultimately backfired, with the Spaniard to now sweat over the severity of Saka's knock.
Saka hobbled off in their last outing, a 4-0 win against Bournemouth on Saturday and Gunners fans had hoped that the 22-year-old would be rested for Tuesday night's Group B clash.
But Arteta included him in his starting XI, and his gamble appeared to pay off after Saka provided the assist for Gabriel Jesus' 14th minute opener.
However, Saka lasted just 34 minutes as he limped off the Stade Bollaert-Delelis pitch.
The England international appeared to hold his thigh, as he hit the deck, before being treated by club medics.
And after being unable to continue, he was replaced by Fabio Vieira as he immediately headed down the tunnel.
Arsenal supporters were quick to voice their frustration at Arteta for refusing to take the youngster out of his team.
Taking to social media, one fan posted: "Absolute negligence from Arteta there. Saka has been hobbling off for 2 successive games…"
Another said: "This Saka s*** is one of the most 'manager-made' injuries I've ever seen."
