Data from the Australian Statistical Bureau revealed that Covid-19 was one of the leading causes of death in Australia in 2022. Since 1970, the first five deaths have been an infectious disease. These were the best diseases in the order of deaths Covid deaths have significantly increased since the first hit the Australian coast. Lockdowns kept Covid death low globally compared to Australia, but when the boundaries opened from 2022 and the nation returned to work as usual, this number increased rapidly. The heart disease, which continues to be the leading cause of deaths in Australia, is affecting more men than women. In 2022, 11,303 men of heart disease compared to 7,340 women. Although the leading cause of death in Australia has remained unchanged for decades, ABS data shows that the top five reasons continue to change. From 1968 to 2015, cerebrovascular diseases, paralysis and aneurysms were the second most common cause of death before being replaced by dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. Various types of cancer, including lung and colorectal, have the first five reasons for decades. While heart disease has the highest number of deaths in total, data shows a different story for young Australians. Suicide is the leading cause of Australians aged 15 to 44 years. Traffic accidents are also the first three deaths for young Australians.
