00:00 And it was phenomenal, it was beyond phenomenal.
00:02 It's what I love about this place so much.
00:04 We have passionate fans, more passionate fans than anybody else in the nation.
00:08 We were prepared for a battle, it didn't end up being a battle.
00:10 But I've also been on the other end of this before too.
00:13 And I think that team's heading in the right direction.
00:15 I think coach is doing a phenomenal job.
00:17 Obviously, he's brought great enthusiasm and response from his players.
00:20 And I know that they'll bounce back from this game moving forward.
00:24 On the same note, I get a little passionate at times, right?
00:27 I get a little excited about what I wanna accomplish for our team.
00:30 And I just wanna say, I need to humble myself a little bit.
00:32 This is one game, right?
00:34 And I'm not satisfied.
00:34 That's what I just told our players.
00:36 We're about to go play great quarterbacks.
00:37 We're about to go play great teams moving forward.
00:39 And it's about how good we can become, right?
00:41 It's not really about who we play.
00:43 And it's about Oregon versus Oregon every week.
00:45 I felt like this was a complete game, offense, defense, and special teams.
00:49 Didn't create a takeaway on defense, I don't believe, but
00:53 had some big plays in all three phases.
00:55 We're dominant in all three phases.
00:56 I thought you could watch our team and say,
00:58 well, they have an identity in all three phases.
00:59 So preparing for the next one, ready to go back to work for Stanford.
01:04 I know that they'll be ready.
01:05 This will be a road game.
01:05 We didn't play as well on the road earlier this year.
01:08 It's time for us to show what we can do on the road moving forward, so
01:10 we can open it up with questions.
01:11 >> Front right, Zach.
01:12 >> Your pregame speech became pretty popular after it got aired on the telecast.
01:17 How long you been sitting on that one?
01:18 And in general,
01:19 how do you think your players did to handle the outside noise and distractions?
01:22 >> I thought they handled it well.
01:24 I thought they handled the focus well.
01:26 We do a pregame speech every week.
01:28 I guess there was a camera in there this time, right?
01:29 So doesn't really change our approach.
01:32 And we'll always have a message for our team.
01:35 Sometimes it's to get them fired up.
01:36 Sometimes we don't necessarily need the brimstone, right?
01:39 But yeah, our guys, there is no speech that wins games.
01:44 Players win games, right?
01:45 Our players went out there and they won the game, right?
01:47 Our players went out there and executed.
01:49 Our players went out there and decided to make a decision to have poised, right?
01:53 Be focused, right?
01:54 Play with their pads and not with anything else.
01:57 And that's what I'm proud of, right?
01:59 Making that decision.
02:00 It's an us decision, right?
02:01 It's not a me decision.
02:03 >> Second row left, Eric.
02:04 Talk a lot about playing up to a certain standard, the defense in particular.
02:09 You said complete game, but how close are they to living up to the standard today?
02:12 And I guess what stands out that makes it that close?
02:15 >> Well, it's one standard.
02:16 Excuse me, it's one game, right?
02:18 It's one game.
02:19 It's about being consistent in your approach, right?
02:22 So I'm really pleased with them.
02:24 I thought they were dialed in.
02:25 I thought they did a good job of eliminating explosive plays.
02:28 That's a team that's created a lot of explosive plays.
02:31 I felt they had a good feel.
02:32 I thought our coaching staff did a phenomenal job.
02:34 This point with the score there at the end, but
02:37 certainly something that we can build off of.
02:39 Now it's about can you do that consistently?
02:41 Can you be consistent in your approach?
02:43 I think we learned a little bit about ourselves that patience,
02:46 there's value in patience, right?
02:47 We were able to apply pressure.
02:49 We were able to be disruptive to the quarterback.
02:51 But it wasn't like we were out there blitzing seven every down, right?
02:54 And knowing when to pitch, right?
02:56 Having some patience, having some consistency, recognizing formations and
03:01 having a feel for the game.
03:02 I thought our Tosh did a phenomenal job.
03:04 I thought our coaches did a phenomenal job and
03:06 our players did a phenomenal job of adjusting.
03:08 So have to carry that over to each week.
03:10 >> Front left, James.
03:11 >> Damn, and the message was substance and not flash.
03:15 What does it feel like that you won the way that you did and
03:20 with so much attention that's been generated by them and
03:23 you having to answer a lot of things about them?
03:25 What does it mean to you personally as a coach and for
03:27 your program to be the first to hand them a loss?
03:30 >> Yeah, I'm not hung up on that.
03:32 When if you're really about substance,
03:33 what you're really hung up on is what's next, right?
03:35 And what's next for our players.
03:37 I'm glad that we got to put Oregon in the light that Oregon deserves to be in.
03:41 But it's really not about anything else other than our team, right?
03:44 And getting our team ready to go play and
03:45 now we gotta go get ready for the next one, right?
03:47 We don't need to be the team that's reading the newspaper articles, right?
03:51 We don't need to be the team that's following Twitter.
03:52 Cuz we didn't follow it this week.
03:54 So we're certainly not gonna look at it next week, right?
03:56 We have to, again, humble ourselves, including myself,
03:59 including our staff and focus on what's next.
04:01 >> Back right.
04:01 >> Coach, six different players added up to the seven sack total,
04:07 Jordan Burch leading the way.
04:10 What did you see from the pass rush unit today and
04:11 how were they able to affect your door so well?
04:13 >> Well, they haven't been a team really that's ran the ball.
04:17 And so I think we knew that we're gonna be pass rush opportunities.
04:20 And like I said, it really speaks to the patience of when we do execute a game,
04:23 let's go attack, let's go be on the move.
04:25 And I thought our guys did a good job of that.
04:27 When they don't have great balance,
04:28 it allows you to be more disruptive in the pass rush game.
04:31 It allows you to build your games on the front more so for
04:34 passing game than run game, right?
04:36 And I thought our guys did a good job of executing that.
04:40 >> Middle left, we're off.
04:41 >> No doubt a lot of eyeballs on this one.
04:43 What impression do you hope,
04:45 think that Bo might have made on everybody who's watching?
04:47 >> We got the best quarterback in the nation, right?
04:49 I know that, I can see that.
04:51 It's like again, you see all the plays that he throws and
04:55 all the plays he makes with his feet, but
04:56 you guys don't see all the checks that he makes.
04:58 You don't see what he does for this team.
04:59 You don't see his leadership.
05:00 He sent a text this morning to me that was impactful for me.
05:04 That guy shapes me, right?
05:05 That guy makes me a better person.
05:07 And we got that guy on our team, so we're so blessed to have him.
05:10 >> All the way in the back, Matt.
05:11 >> I feel like your team's being a little disrespected or
05:16 not talked enough about just how good you guys are coming into this week.
05:19 I don't care how much anybody talks about us, but
05:21 if we can ever find fuel for the fire, we'll certainly use it.
05:24 >> Back right row.
05:25 >> All offseason, the defense talked about wanting to set the tone and
05:30 go out there and be feared as a whole.
05:32 What do you feel like that statement was made?
05:34 Or what do you feel like the statement that they made today in their performance?
05:38 >> Yeah, one game, right?
05:39 And again, for me, it's about consistent approach, right?
05:41 Can you do that on the road now, right?
05:43 Can you remove self-inflicted wounds?
05:44 I think it creates belief when you have a game like that.
05:47 But again, I know what we're about to play.
05:49 I mean, we're gonna have some of the best offenses in this conference
05:52 as we move forward, and you certainly can't be satisfied with that result.
05:56 >> Back left, Ashley, blue, in the blue.
05:57 >> Can you talk a little bit about what some of the new guys on defense have done
06:03 for you, like Jordan Burch, Evan Williams, and Kyrie Jackson?
06:06 >> Yeah, I think you look at our track record,
06:09 when we bring a guy in, they normally can help us, right?
06:12 And all those guys have enhanced us.
06:14 Just as much as they are good players on the field, they're good people.
06:17 They fit our culture.
06:18 They work tremendously hard.
06:20 They don't really care necessarily what the rep count is, but
06:22 when they get an opportunity, they take advantage of it.
06:24 And I think all those guys have been tremendous for us and will continue to be.
06:29 >> Front right, Zach.
06:30 >> More specifically on Kyrie Jackson, he's strung together a couple of really nice
06:35 games here.
06:36 He was somewhat earlier in the season that you highlighted as making a few panic
06:39 mistakes in coverage.
06:40 How do you think you've seen him grow over the past couple weeks?
06:42 >> Yeah, he has grown.
06:43 And Kyrie has the ability to be an elite corner, right?
06:47 Not just here, but at the next level.
06:49 But what I'm glad is I can coach Kyrie.
06:52 I can tell him, hey, this is what you gotta improve, and he owns it, and
06:54 he accepts it.
06:55 There are definitely opportunities for growth for him moving forward.
06:58 And the more he shapes his game and continues to grow, he can be really
07:01 special.
07:02 >> Back middle, Erin.
07:03 >> You mentioned earlier that you think that this could be one of the top offenses
07:08 in the nation.
07:09 Just after today, seeing how the running backs did, how Troy did in the first half,
07:13 especially, and just the fact that you're able to put Ty in at the end,
07:17 because that's what the offense kind of earned, was a chance for
07:22 him to get a couple reps.
07:22 Just how versatile do you think this offense is, and
07:25 where do you kind of want to see him go from here?
07:27 >> Well, I just think they took great steps today.
07:29 I think our offensive coaches did an awesome job preparing for this one.
07:33 Having great answers from out there in the field.
07:35 You don't always know what you're gonna get from a team.
07:38 But they were prepared and made some great adjustments on things that we thought
07:42 had maybe hurt us in earlier weeks.
07:45 We worked on some things that we wanted to go to the doctor on and get better at,
07:47 and I thought those showed up in the game.
07:48 So again, it's about consistent growth.
07:50 It's about the next step, but they did a good job today.
07:53 >> Second row left, Eric.
07:54 >> Why was that the right time for the fake punt?
07:57 And why was Casey the right player to carry the ball there?
08:00 >> Cuz we've probably ran that thing 47 times in practice, right?
08:03 And the right times when they don't think it's coming, right?
08:06 And we had some momentum.
08:07 I have tremendous belief in our defense that time.
08:09 They've been operating at a really high level, right?
08:11 But I'm not really interested in running fake punts when everybody thinks we're
08:13 gonna run a fake punt, right?
08:14 You kinda wanna hit them when they don't suspect it.
08:16 >> Front left, James.
08:17 >> [COUGH] >> Troy's now up to three 100 yard
08:22 games this season.
08:23 We saw it obviously last year.
08:25 What has he done to take this to the next level to where he can be
08:28 nearly 100 yard receiver every week?
08:30 >> Yeah, what he can continue to do is not care about that, right?
08:34 I didn't know that.
08:35 I know Troy's playing well, but I didn't know he had 300 yards receiving.
08:38 But my expectation for Troy is that he always can.
08:41 If you ever wanna decide to single cover him, right?
08:43 He's a guy that can absolutely take advantage of it.
08:45 He's done a good job with yards after catch.
08:47 I challenge him to continue to protect the ball,
08:50 keep playing with great emotion but within his teammates.
08:53 Troy is a special man.
08:54 He's a really phenomenal kid.
08:56 He's hungry.
08:56 I've seen big strides from him and his preparation, his desire to be a lead.
09:01 But certainly not done yet.
09:02 >> All the way back left, Matt.
09:05 >> Running backs performed pretty well.
09:07 Ran over some guys, broke a lot of tackles.
09:09 Just what do you think of those guys' performance?
09:11 And just how much of a momentum builder is it to see a guy like Bucky break out of so
09:15 many tackles on some long runs?
09:16 >> That dude's tough, man.
09:18 That group is tough.
09:18 Their coach is tough, right?
09:20 I think that shows up in the way they play.
09:22 And a very selfless group, right, that I'm really, really proud of.
