Multiple rounds of potentially damaging thunderstorms are in the forecast for part of the Plains through Saturday.
Transcript
00:00 More thunderstorms rolling across
00:01 the Southern Plains from Dallas
00:03 to Oklahoma City, Tulsa to Houston.
00:05 But you'll notice where we have more
00:07 thunderstorms really across the Sooner State.
00:09 Temperatures are a little bit lower
00:11 with more cloud cover and a few more
00:14 storms, but these storms they can
00:16 pack a bit of a punch even into
00:18 North Texas for cities like Dallas,
00:20 Lubbock, even out toward Amarillo
00:22 and the Panhandle up to Guymon,
00:24 OK, Dodge City and up to North Platte,
00:26 Nebraska.
00:27 We are looking at some spotty
00:28 storms today. Isolated tornadoes are possible,
00:30 but I will say wind and hail
00:32 are the two biggest concerns.
00:34 Flash flooding also possible
00:35 in localized areas,
00:36 so make sure you have the
00:37 AccuWeather app on your phone and
00:39 you're staying tuned to the forecast.
00:41 Let's follow these storms together here
00:42 as we play out future radar into the
00:45 afternoon you'll notice the complex
00:46 a little bit further South again.
00:48 This is why temperatures are a little lower,
00:50 but it does mean we do have a little
00:52 more widespread rain, thunder,
00:54 lightning and some gusty winds.
00:55 I do think it's as we get into the
00:57 afternoon that things really start to
00:59 ramp up across the plains with multiple
01:01 complexes of storms will be watching.
01:03 And even these small cells.
01:04 These to me look like hail producers,
01:07 and I do think we'll see more in
01:09 the way of gusty winds as well.
01:11 If there's an isolated tornado,
01:12 I would not be surprised if it's
01:14 within one of those cells now late
01:16 tonight and overnight into tomorrow morning.
01:18 You'll notice these thunderstorms stick around,
01:19 but we do start to lose a bit of steam,
01:22 so we see more in the way of some gusty winds,
01:25 but largely rain, thunder and lightning.
01:27 That said,
01:27 we roll the severe threat right
01:29 back around into Friday,
01:30 looking at a some risk for spotty
01:33 severe weather back to Kearney,
01:34 NE into Omaha and then the moderate
01:36 risk now into areas of Southern
01:38 South Dakota and northern Nebraska.
01:40 That means more numerous storms in this area.
01:42 All threats once again included,
01:44 but I do think that wind and hail top the list.
01:47 I would put flooding in the medium
01:49 category because there is so much
01:51 of this area that's drought stricken.
01:53 Rain is a good thing in the long run,
01:56 but there's a risk of flash flooding
01:58 in the short term tornadoes.
01:59 The risk is low,
02:00 but it's not zero and the same goes
02:02 for Saturday where we have now
02:04 implemented a moderate risk for Omaha
02:06 all the way back to Sioux Falls and
02:08 down just squeaking north of Kansas City.
02:10 Again, more numerous storms in that area.
02:12 Some spotty severe thunderstorms
02:13 back toward Wichita,
02:14 OKC and Springfield.
02:14 All threats once again involved,
02:16 so make sure you're staying weather
02:17 aware and will be here on Accuweather
02:19 to guide you through the storms.
