UNESCO adds Tunisia’s Djerba to World Heritage list

UNESCO has added the Tunisian resort island of Djerba to its list of World Heritage Sites. Covering an area of 514 square kilometres, Djerba is the largest island off North Africa. It is most known for its religious diversity, boasting churches, synagogues and fortified mosques from the Ibadi school of Islam, some of which are underground. Djerba remains a top tourist destination in Tunisia.
