House Republicans Divided as Funding Deadline Looms. Can McCarthy Raise the Votes to Keep the Government Running?
Tensions are rising inside the Republican caucus in the House of Representatives as the deadline to fund the government on September 30th approaches. A group of House Republicans led by Representative Chip Roy have brokered a deal for a one-month funding bill. Still, other hardliners like Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz oppose it. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy faces challenges keeping his caucus united to pass the brokered funding deal. He can only lose four Republican votes and still pass it with solely GOP support.
