is preparing for Hurricane Lee
following a week of extreme weather.

declared a disaster per the request
of Maine Governor Janet Mills.

Previously, Mills had declared a state of emergency in
Maine, but the declaration by the White House ensures
federal resources will be made available for the state.
Associated Press reports that a tropical storm warning
has been put in place from Maine to Massachusetts, while
Maine was put under its first hurricane watch in 15 years.
Tropical storm-force winds of 40 miles per hour or
greater have been forecast, along with 20-foot ocean
swells before the storm makes landfall on September 17.
According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), hurricane conditions could impact parts of , "Down East Maine, southern New
Brunswick and western Nova Scotia.".
The NHC said that Hurricane Lee is forecast to , “spread along the coast of New England and over
portions of Atlantic Canada through Saturday.” .
Over ten inches of rain fell in over
six hours this week in Maine.
There were also multiple tornado warnings.
'The Hill' reports that heavy rain in the state
caused sinkholes and flooding across many areas. .
As of the morning of September 15, the NHC said the
storm system was 490 miles southeast of Nantucket,
Massachusetts, with winds up to 85 miles per hour
