High-Speed Stolen Vehicle Pursuit - August 12, 2023

On August 12th, 2023, Caldwell Parish Sheriff's Office was notified of a vehicle stolen out of Union Parish. A deputy located and went after the vehicle, but the vehicle fled and led him on a high-speed pursuit deep into neighboring Franklin Parish. Ambient temperatures were approximately 105 degrees (fahrenheit).

Sheriff Clay Bennett was campaigning for re-election (driving his official, parish-owned, unmarked police truck, which is illegal and a violation of the La. Constitution's restrictions on using public funds for political campaign purposes) and heard the radio traffic, so he attempted to join the pursuit. His truck will only run about 100 MPH so there was no way he could catch up to the 130+ MPH pursuit.

The pursuit was approaching the city of Winnsboro when a Franklin Parish deputy pulled out in front of the Caldwell deputy, causing everyone to lose sight of the suspect vehicle.

A week and a half later, Franklin Parish pursued the vehicle back to Caldwell, and the driver was taken into custody. You can hear the Caldwell side of that pursuit at https://dai.ly/x8nfbe3

Regarding the deputy in this pursuit: you will never hear him on this channel committing misconduct of any kind, as he has consistently done the right thing ever since he joined the department 5 years ago. He has always been a good person and an honest cop. He does his job properly, lawfully, and with integrity, and he treats citizens with respect. He's one of the only good cops in the department.
