A family has started a new tradition and all dress up in flamboyant outfits - to attract hummingbirds.

The Cline family from Denver, Colorado, USA, say the event was inspired by one of their grandmother's love for the bird.

They don costumes and standstill in the backyard to be the first to attract a hummingbird - with the first person to do so winning $200.

More than ten people took part with their DIY outfits.

Footage shows the huge effort each family member went to with their outfits with custom-made clothing and bird-feeder add-ons alike.

Dressed in bright colours family members added cups of sugar water to their outfits in hopes of being the first to land a hummingbird.

The family started in a circle but eventually moved around the garden with the first hummingbird being spotted in a tree.

Family member Hunter Ledbetter won the jackpot and generously paid for the whole family's dinner with the winnings.

Lexi said: "The idea came from learning my grandma's love for hummingbirds!

"We have done it last year but we only had the hummingbird rings so this year it was time to up our game!

"The winner bought dinner for the fam!"

The footage was captured on August 12.
