328 HP Released with 15-Inch Portrait Display and Larger Body, New GMC Acadia 2024

It's nearly a foot longer with 80 percent more cargo space and comes with Super Cruise for hands-free driving.

The new generation GMC Acadia graces the stage at the 2023 Detroit Auto Show. Launched as a 2024 model, the SUV is larger in every respect than its predecessor. This means more room for people and cargo inside, and it also packs updated technology under the hood with more power.

While the GMC Acadia is new for 2024, some changes will look familiar to General Motors fans. Sharing its bones with the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse that debuted in July, this model has the same turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood rated at 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque for all Acadia trims. It is the only engine offered and powers the front wheels or all four through an eight-speed automatic transmission. At the moment, electrification with all-electric or hybrid power is not in sight.

The new engine is certainly the focus of the next-generation Acadia, but the biggest news (figuratively and literally) might be the larger trunk. It's 10.6 inches longer and 3.6 inches taller than the 2023 model, and while that might not seem like much on paper, it brings the Acadia closer to its surprisingly hefty GMC Yukon sibling. According to GMC, inside the cabin this means a significant increase in space; 80 percent more storage space behind the third-row seat and a 36 percent increase in the second row.

Front-seat passengers are treated to a very different digital layout than the new Traverse. The driver gets an 11-inch diagonal screen with a 15-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen in the middle. This setup is standard across the Acadia lineup; While it's not an all-digital affair, both screens are customizable. Steering wheel buttons and a row of buttons below the center display offer tactile controls for accessing various vehicle functions.

As for price, GMC isn't ready to talk about it yet. For reference, the base SLE trim of the 2023 GMC Acadia starts at $36,800. The AT4 is priced at $43,400, and the top-of-the-line 2023 GMC Acadia Denali has a starting MSRP of $48,600. None of these figures include destination charges. The prices of the 2024 models will be announced closer to the sales date, which is expected to be at the beginning of next year.
