Snooker Star Performs 'Escape Shot of the Season' that Fans Are Dubbing 'Outrageous'

Snooker star Louis Heathcote earned plaudits for his "escape of the season" shot as he qualified for the English Open. The 26-year-old from Leicester conceded the first frame in his clash with Malaysian Thor Chuan Leong, 35, on Wednesday (September 6), but fought back to level in the second.

Louis Heathcote repeated his heroics from April 2021 with yet another jaw-dropping escape shot during his English Open qualifying match this week.

He was back up against it in the third, however, when he was seemingly snookered by Thor. The cue ball sat next to the brown - with the final red on the other side at the top of the table.

But Heathcote had a plan as he went all the way down the other end of the table, hitting the cushion twice at the perfect angle to hit the red spot.

He even managed to block off the pocket with the brown, stumping Thor even more. From there Heathcote kicked on and claimed a 4-1 victory, in the process booking his spot for next month's English Open at the Brentwood Centre in Essex.

Fans took to social media to praise the highlight of the match, with Talking Snooker tweeting: "Outrageous escape from a friend of the podcast Louis Heathcote." Another replied: "That is class."

A third stunned viewer exclaimed: "Where’s the cue ball going?! [laughing emoji]." And a fourth hailed: "Brilliant escape by Louis Heathcote."

Heathcote responded to him, writing: "Felt like crying when he said 'foul and a miss'." Amazingly, it's not the first stunning escape shot he's pulled off.

Back in April 2021, he hit what was labeled "one of the most extraordinary shots in snooker history" during his World Championship qualifier against Ryan Day, using the edge of the pocket to get out of another snookered situation and somehow sinking the yellow.
