US Judge Holds Donald Trump Liable for Defamatory Statements in E. Jean Carroll Case
  • 8 months ago
A US judge ruled that Donald Trump is liable for defamatory statements he made about writer E. Jean Carroll in 2019 when she publicly accused him of raping her in the 1990s. In May 2022, a jury previously found that Trump had sexually assaulted Carroll in the 1990s and defamed her in 2019 comments, denying the allegations. Trump was ordered to pay Carroll $5 million in damages. The current lawsuit is about statements Trump made as president in response to Carroll's claims. The trial is scheduled for January 15, 2023. Carroll publicly accused Trump of raping her in a New York department store in the mid-1990s. Trump denied the allegations and claimed she's not his type.
