RUTHERGLEN AND HAMILTON WEST NEEDS A FRESH START” - SHANKS AND SARWAR RESPOND TO BY-ELECTION DATE

Commenting on news that the Rutherglen and Hamilton West by-election will be held on October 5 Scottish Labour candidate for Rutherglen and Hamilton West Michael Shanks said “People in Rutherglen and Hamilton West have been let down and left voiceless in Parliament for far too long.

“Our area needs a fresh start and a local champion to speak up for it, and I will be working tirelessly to earn the chance to do that.

“From the cost of living crisis to the chaos in our NHS, I will be relentlessly focused on the issues that matter.

“I will be speaking to as many people as possible over the next month to show them that change is possible and that Scottish Labour can deliver it.”

Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar said “This is a chance for Rutherglen and Hamilton West to demand better than the same old SNP failure and choose a fresh start.

“Scottish Labour can deliver the change this community needs and Michael Shanks has hit the ground running - but we are not complacent.

“We are working tirelessly to earn voters’ trust and show that we can deliver the fresh start the area needs.

“This is not as good as it gets - change is coming, and voters in Rutherglen and Hamilton West can lead the way by putting our two failing governments on notice and electing a local champion in Scottish Labour’s Michael Shanks.”
