The story of how the Asia Cup started

The first Asia Cup was played in 1984 in the United Arab Emirates. The beginning of the Asia Cup is linked to India’s World Cup victory in 1983. Narendra Kumar Prasad Salve, who was the BCCI President from 1982 to 1985 and the then president of BCCI, was denied a few extra passes to the 1983 World Cup final by British authorities, and the angry Salve decided to host the next World Cup in India. The first step in this direction was the formation of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in 1983.
