01:02 So what do you think? Pretty cool?
01:05 As a member of the development team and a long-term Land Cruiser owner myself,
01:10 this was a dream come true.
01:13 We had a chance to reassess every past aspect of the Land Cruiser for its relevance
01:20 and we designed it ground up to embody Land Cruiser values for the modern day.
01:25 It's honest, it's lean and agile, it's fit for purpose.
01:31 Now let me take you through the five key areas that make this model the true soul of Land Cruiser.
01:38 Number one, capability.
01:41 At the heart of this is the GAF platform.
01:46 Capability, durability, they're all built in and performance over rough terrain is on a par with the flagship Land Cruiser 300.
01:54 This capability is now more practical and accessible than ever.
02:00 This is the first Land Cruiser to have electric power steering rather than hydraulic.
02:06 This improves ease and comfort on-road and reduces kickback off-road.
02:13 Number two, choice.
02:15 The powertrain line-up reflects diverse regional requirements.
02:21 For the first time, this includes a hybrid powertrain in a Land Cruiser.
02:26 Now this tried and tested technology increases fuel efficiency as well as performance
02:33 with no compromise on durability.
02:37 It was an extremely difficult task but it's allowed customers in all corners of the world the chance to participate in the journey toward carbon neutrality.
02:48 Number three, intuitive operation.
02:52 Vehicle control is fundamental to building trust between driver and machine.
03:00 We designed the cockpit controls to be easy to identify and operate by feel alone.
03:07 Here we sought the expertise of Dakar Rally champion Akira Miura, no stranger to driving under pressure in extreme environments.
03:17 He told us that it's crucial that the interfaces support the driver with maximum accuracy and minimum effort, whatever the conditions.
03:28 And that brings me to point number four, beauty is function.
03:34 Every aspect of the design is based on the premise that beauty comes from functionality.
03:42 Proportions are calculated for maneuverability in extreme environments.
03:47 The sides are kept slim, the overhang short and the corners carefully sculpted.
03:55 The low beltline, narrow A-pillars and angular structure, they're all designed for visibility and easy, accurate orientation.
04:04 And customers also reminded us of the importance of damage mitigation and repairability.
04:11 The high mounted headlights, they're designed to rise above the debris and of course the long savannah grass.
04:18 The segmented front bumper is designed to be easy to repair.
04:24 But this objective approach to design and functionality, it's not the whole story.
04:30 A lot of effort was placed on creating a subjective feeling of trust.
04:36 For example, the wheel to body offset imparts a feeling of strength and stability.
04:42 It gives the driver confidence in the capability of the vehicle.
04:48 But it has to look the part. Everything, everything in this car has a story and a reason.
04:54 And finally number five, the new Land Cruiser will reach even more people.
05:02 Yeah, that's right, the Land Cruiser is coming back to America.
05:07 So we went back to the origin and we came out looking to the future.
05:13 This Gentenkaiki journey was a soul searching exercise in many respects.
05:18 And as a mobility company, we honestly believe that freedom in motion is a universal right.
05:26 One to be enjoyed by everyone in the world, wherever they live.
05:31 And the Land Cruiser development, this process reminded us that in many parts of the world, individual mobility is not a luxury, but a lifeline.
05:42 Our customers trust in us to keep Land Cruiser relevant and thriving toward the future.
05:49 And this future could mean anything from carbon neutral approaches to ensuring the Land Cruiser brand is more affordable and within reach of even more people around the world.
06:02 Or it may even mean exploring new approaches to mobility that enhance not only the Land Cruiser experience, but also further people's freedom in motion.
06:12 Suffice it to say, there are lots of exciting paths to changing the future of cars.
06:20 Let's change the future of cars. Thank you very much.
