Glasgow headlines 24 August: Death of bus driver now treated as murder case

Police are now treating the death of 23-year-old bus driver Gordon Stirling as murder.

Stirling passed away in Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital from injuries after the bus he was driving crashed into a Ford Transit on the A77.

Police are appealing for information that may aid their investigation.

Next, demolition work has begun at the Easter Queenslie recycling depot, paving the way for a new centre which is set to be the biggest in the UK.

The project is a joint endeavour between Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government and is set for completion in 2026.

The new facility will replace the material recovery centre at Blochairn.

And finally, firefighters in Glasgow are protesting plans to cut the service’s budget and reduce the number of fire appliances.

This follows the release of statistics revealing the number of accidental and deliberate fires in the city has increased from last year.
